Project Description:

We need assistance consolidating two event websites we have inherited ( http://www.earthdayhouston.org/ and http://www.earthdayhouston.org/art-contest/ ) into our core brand and website - http://airalliancehouston.org/ We have brand standards and guidelines, they are consistent with the airalliancehouston.org website. As you can see the other website is not compliant with our existing brand standards.

Additionally, and at the same time, we need help to create, set up and integrate a (new Salesforce based) data-base into our website and communications strategy, so that we can effectively capture “friends” and event attendees.

Our objective is to entice core constituents to register themselves in support of clean air within the greater Houston region. Why? Our motto is the answer – Because EVERYONE Breathes! We need to identify and capture core audiences if we are to improve air quality in Houston.

Because we host Earth Day Houston, an official City of Houston event, each year, on a shoestring budget, we really need a vibrant system that combines a single brand centric web presence with a plan for effective data capture of friends and potential donors, in a manner that will effectively engage core audiences.

This request is for the tech support that will staff such a transition.

Note - We are willing to separately secure a core constituency intern to perform data entry tasks, as needed, in collaboration with this project.

Project Justification: (Why the Agency feels this project should be selected over another)

Clean air and environmental sustainability are important issues of interest to students; they are important issues that affect us all:

You might not think about it, yet you breathe much more often than you drink, eat, or sleep. When at rest, you take around 16 breaths a minute. That means you will breathe 23 thousand   times a day, and over 8.5 million times a year. With a little exercise thrown in, by the time you live to 70 years of age you’ll have inhaled between 500 million and 600 million breaths!

Houston is currently ranked by the American Lung Association as the sixth most polluted city in the nation for ozone, and the 30th most polluted city for particulate matter. There are well known cancer risks from exposure to air pollution, but these risks are unevenly distributed. They fall disproportionately on people who are poor, because they live in or near industrialized areas.

But air pollution circulates all over our city. We know that significant air quality issues, like asthma and lung cancer associated with ozone exposure, frequently appear in locations near you, and in places where your family members likely live and work, as well.

Houstonians are at risk from poor air quality every day!

But poor air quality disproportionally affects the most vulnerable within our society – babies, children, the elderly, and those with asthma, lung problems, and respiratory illness. We all feel a desire to protect vulnerable people in need!

Air Alliance Houston’s mission and vision are:

Mission: To reduce air pollution in the Houston region and protect public health and environmental integrity through research, education, and advocacy. Vision: Clean air so our economy, quality of life, and children can thrive.
