Week Ten Paper Guidance

1. Make sure you have read the assigned reading and that you cite at least 4 course learning resources and at least

2. 3 outside scholarly sources. It is okay to use web pages but to be considered scholarly they should end in .edu, .gov or .org.

3. Look at the assignment instructions each week (8, 9 and 10). This is a combined paper with three different components.

4. Set up your format for your paper – then as you are reading the resources you can make notes on where you will use them – be sure to paraphrase and not quote unless it is necessary to preserve statistics or information.

a. Remember this is a three week paper

i. Title Page – Follow annotated sample paper example

ii. Introduction paragraph – Should be the title of your paper. Do not use the word “Introduction” as your header.

1. Write a couple of sentences introducing the topic. What is this paper about? The section needs a purpose statement – the purpose of this paper is to…review the major concepts for each section.

iii. Completed in Week 8 – Use the following Level I headings for the numbered areas (centered and bold) and level two headers (flush left and bold) for items a-c.

1. Population Health Issue and Population Affected

2. Advocacy Programs Researched in this Area

3. Effective Attributes of the Programs

3. Ethical Challenges Unique to the Population

vi. Summary – Summarize the main points of your work

vii. References – Check ALL your references with Common Reference List Examples (posted in class doc sharing)

5. Double check your work by checking off all components on the APA Checklist and compare your paper to the School of Nursing Annotated Sample Paper.

6. Remember to use personal pronouns appropriately. There should be no “I believe”, “I feel”, “I think” type of “I” use. Also, do not use first person plural (we, our) or second person (you, your). see point of view at http://writingcenter.waldenu.edu/711.htm

7. Once you have a complete draft, then please go to the Writing Center.

a. Put the paper through Grammarly and make corrections;

b. Then in the same Writing Center, put your work through Turnitin (not the one in the application section of class, use the Writing Center).

i. Take off title page and references. If your work reads 15% or less, then you are ready to submit it to me.

ii. If the percentage is more then please rework and place through the Writing Center TII until it is 15% or less.

8. Remember…the resources from the course have to be used – look at the rubric – you are required to use course learning materials and also have references to outside professional materials.
