PROJECT 3a, b, and c: Writing for Executives

1. Select your writing assignment from the following choices:

1. A proposal to undertake a new initiative; including recommended steps to move forward on

the proposal,

2. A report on your analysis of an organizational problem; including recommendations for

fixing the problem.

2. At least 5 in-text citations in APA format are required for this assignment. These in-text citations

are then listed in a required reference list at the end of your proposal or report. PLEASE NOTE: APA style DOES NOT list personal communications in reference lists (see APA style for personal communications). The 5 (or more) in-text citations must be relevant to the matters discussed in your proposal/report. Specifically,

1. At least one of the in-text citations MUST be from academic sources (UMUC library,  scholar.google.com ).

2. A second in-text citation MUST be from trade, industry, professional, or government/regulatory sources.

3. The three other in-text citations typically come from conversations, surveys, internal publications, general periodicals, or relevant video/audio sources.

REMEMBER: unless your in-text citations are personal communications, you are required to cite the

sources for in-text citations in an APA-formatted reference list at the end of your document.

3. Academic Integrity – after you complete the research necessary to develop in-text

citation/reference list sources, write – without any assistance and observing all academic integrity

requirements – the proposal or report you selected from the list (#1) above.

4. Required Content for Project #3:

1. Project 3a: A pre-writing analysis, outline, and reference list for your proposal/ recommendation . Bring your pre-writing analysis, outline, and reference list with you to the Week 6 class. The “who,” “what,” “why,” and “how” sections of the Pre-Wring Checklist should be filled in using the techniques and models discussed in class so that you fully think through this writing assignment before you actually begin writing.( I NEED THIS IN 24 HOURS- 2 PAGES-ADD A COVER PAGE AND A REFERENCES PAGE). THEN PROCEED WITH THE REST.

2. Project 3b: Bring the first draft of your proposal/recommendation report. This draft must contain the following content elements:

i. Background section of the proposal/recommendation. ii. Proposal section of the proposal/recommendation.

3. Project 3c: The final, completed proposal/report with recommendations.The final report must contain all the content elements noted above except the Pre-Writing Checklist and Outline (4a). In addition, the final report MUST add the following elements and sections to the Background, Proposal, and Reference List sections:

i. A cover sheet ii. A table of contents

iii. An executive summary

iv. At least two graphic elements d. The final completed report will have at least two graphic elements integrated with six

sections (cover page, table of contents, executive summary, background, proposal/recommendation, reference list). In addition, the final completed report MAY contain elements and sections beyond those noted in the sentence above. You must determine what additional elements are needed in the final report in order for the written report to accomplish its purpose.

5. Required Style, Forman, and Submission: a. Font size – appropriate to the audience and message b. Typeface – appropriate to the audience and message c. Page margins – appropriate to the audience and message d. Header/Footer – must have a header that contains your name, the date, and the class

identifier (WRTG394). There must also be a footer with the page number on the right of

each page e. Spacing – appropriate to the audience and message f. Length – 8 pages:

i. The background and proposal sections must make up 4-5 of the total pages. ii. Reference list – no more than 1 page (using APA style) documenting the

independent research done in step 2 above. g. Format – .DOC, .DOCX, PDF, or RTF file.

h. Medium – submitted electronically in the Project 3 assignment folder/UMUC-LEO online classroom.
