MCE 181: HW#1: WELDMENTS&SHEET METAL ■ REV-B

INSTRUCTIONS: Use Sheet Metal and Weldments to create the assembly file shown in FIGURE
HW#1-1.
Create the weldment as a part file shown in FIGURE HW#1-1 using the instructions per
exercise MCE181-CE#1 WELDMENTS. Use the 3D sketch shown in FIGURE HW#1-2 for
dimensions. The structural members are 4”x4”x0.25” square tubes and the joints must be
trimmed/extended as shown. See FIGURE HW#1-4 for additional views on the joints.
Add weldment end caps and 4 gussets with fillets as shown.
Create an assembly file, import the weldment, and create the sheet metal as shown in
FIGURE HW#1-1. Side panels must be removable and the top and back panels must be
welded. For removable panels, use the hole series and smart fastener tools for ½-13
flatheads. Follow exercise MCE181-CE#2 SHEET METAL for design and dimensional
instructions on removable sheet metal, welded sheet metal, hole series, and smart
fasteners.
Remove tangent edges, keep origin planes on center, and fully define the 3D sketch. The
file should not have any unsolvable or conflicting entities(yellow or red under the design
tree).

SUBMITTING YOUR HOMEWORK:
o Make every part virtual (right click part on assembly>Make
Virtual) and save your assembly internally (this will remove
the references to external files).
o Name your file HW1, name, and student ID#.
o E-mail your file to [email protected]. Place HW1, your
name, and student ID on the subject line.
o NOTE: Make sure to test that your assembly file is fully
internal by re-naming the folder of the parts or opening the
assembly file on a different computer. The grading staff will
assume parts with broken references as nonexistent and
grade accordingly.

INSTRUCTIONS: Add the following items to the assembly for 10 extra credit points total.
Create the front 3 fore panels as shown.(louvers need to be included as well)

Add the light curtains, levelers, ESTOP, HMI, and SCARA robot.
