Scarifying Our Privacy
Did you know that your internet history has already been saved and archived? Internet privacy is a situation where by a person is able to have personal privacy in storing displaying of information of oneself from third parties. Privacy is a state or condition of being free from being observed or disturbed by other people. Human beings always have privacy in every aspects of their life’s but in the last decades with the invention of the internet, governments and companies started to invade people privacy. People from different ages uses the internet and social media, the more people use the internet and social media the more privacy we face. Although invading people privacy leads people to problems like divorces, it is very useful as it helps in monitoring people moves through the internet and social media like terror attacks and decrease of the street crimes social media and internet is also a platform that employers use to find the best people to hire; therefore, privacy is something we must sacrifice in order to participate efficiently in today’s world.
The internet built a network for people to communicate faster and in an easy way than any other method of communication. This is clear evidence that the use of internet is very important in lives of people. Following people tracks helps government and military prevent terror attacks, it protects the society and the world from the bad people from harming our beautiful world. Many terrorist attacks have been prevented by the use of internet, without the internet it would be very hard to find people who want to harm our world and society and that’s what we need we need technology that help us to identify people who are planning do actions which might cause harm to human kind. In the article “Terrorists and the Internet “by Eben Kaplan , Kaplan states that with internet it is easily to find terrorists , and it also help the US government and military to find al-Qaeda members by tracking there location to know where they are . Our security should only be sacrificed for good reasons such as security purposes but not any other reason less than protecting lives, so far technological discoveries have worked to ensure the level of our anonymity privacy is reduced (Chesterman, 2011)
Installing large amount of surveillance cameras around the neighborhoods and the streets creates safer and more effective streets. Public surveillance cameras provide us with video recording with the incident we need and can be reviewed many times as possible. The wide variety of cameras around the streets helps policemen to catch criminals with evidence. In the article “Chicago's Camera Network Is everywhere “the writer mention that the city of Chicago has installed more than 1500 cameras that linked with police around the city to decrease the numbers of crimes in Chicago. As also mentioned in the article by a police spokesman said that installing 1500 cameras around the city of Chicago "aided in thousands of arrests.”. For example, the cameras around the city caught footage that one of the Chicago gang members has shoot fire on a bus; the video was used as evidence which led the victim to be imprisoned 100 years.
Checking people profiles on social media websites has never been easier than the period we are in right now. By checking on people profiles you can know where the person lives, how old they are, what his favorite actor is, what their favorite team is and all this information you
can get it by just one click in your computer or device . In the last ten years, employers started to check the applicants profiles to decide whether they are going to hire this person of not. In “ Employers Use Social Networks to Check Out Applicants “ showed that photos is the most biggest factor in hiring decision followed by drinking and drug use. Photos are the most biggest factors in hiring decision because no one want to hire some who always partying and dancing in parties that’s will keep him away and distracted from his job. Other stuff that the employers check is the online communication skills and that’s hurt many people in hiring decisions. The most popular website that employers check their applicants profiles are Facebook followed by LinkedIn. Many companies started to follow this method and it works well by the help of the internet and the social media.
The introduction of the cyber security by the Obama government on interfering with people internet privacy in order to improve security and reduce terrorism has brought up mixed reaction on people of America. On the other hand, there are many people against privacy and they think we should not sacrifice for it because it’s leading us to bigger problems. In their point of view they think that the government is doing illegal activities by getting all of our personal information and our phone records. They also think that’s people rights should be always decided by the people themselves not the government and small corporations. However, tracking people phone calls and recorders would prevent the country from many terror attacks in the past for example 9/11 attack, this threat is bigger than our privacy because we are losing properties human lives through terrorism. Every country has a role to protect its citizens from all sorts of insecurity including the terrorist attacks, even if it will cost us sacrificing our freedom for this then let it be. However, not every individual will be comfortable when it comes to giving up their freedom for security reasons, individuals who oppose this claims that their freedom is something sententious which their forefather fought for in the colonial periods and by giving up their freedoms will be like betraying those who fought for this freedom. What is the essence of protecting lives yet you can’t live free, and that’s how some individuals argue. I totally feel this is wrong and protecting our lives should be the first priority, sacrificing our privacy even if it’s our internet freedom let it be. People should see the pros and cons for every subject that impact our society and in this subject I think that the pros of sacrificing the internet privacy are more than cons, and that’s what really makes people life better and easier than ever.
A person security in more important than their privacy therefore people should not need to worry about their personal privacy and information because the government is use the internet to benefit all the American citizens. Providing our personal information and privacy are used in good way to help us. Losing privacy nowadays is different because it is for our own goods because it protects citizens from terror attacks and decrease of the street crimes it also helps employers in finding the best employees to hire. We need to sacrifice our privacy to participate in today’s world to have safer and better life.
