3 page paper
SCLT 3340 – Geography for Supply Chain Management
Special Project in lieu of class on 2-10-16
“Did the US win or lose in the Iran nuclear deal” - write a paper on your observations, comments, and opinions.
Objective : On the surface, it seems that the Iran nuclear deal is based in global politics and will have only limited, if any, effect on supply chains within the US. That may be correct, it may not. Since the world is so connected, it would intuitively make sense that lifting the sanctions on Iran would be positive as it opens new markets, but perhaps it will put further pressure on the falling price of oil, destabilizing regional/local economies such as Houston’s, or perhaps it will have no effect at all, at least in the US. Does the risk of Iran developing nuclear weapons outweigh any positive benefits or does establishing relations with Iran make the world, especially the Middle East, a safer place? A stabilized region would certainly be a positive for global supply chains as political stability is necessary for economic health. On the other hand, further destabilization could be devastating considering the current destabilization is already spilling over into Europe and disrupting economies there.
For your assignment, attend the lecture, listen for connections to the global supply chain, research details on the agreement from at least two other sources, form your own opinions, then write a three page paper.
Due Date : February 14, 2016 at 7:00 pm. Hand the paper in at class.
Format :
1. Three pages, single spaced, 12 point font. Bibliography required
3. A suggested organization of your paper is as follows (you do not HAVE to follow this, it is a suggestion only): briefly describe what the Iran nuclear deal is and why it is a political issue, state how you feel it will help/hinder global supply chains (new markets/ increased competition, stabilized region/further destabilization to region), back up for your opinions, end with a conclusion.
Other Items :
Personal opinions are fine. Just be sure and back them up with a logical argument and/or research.
