Project summary

The project involves setting up a business premise for an electronics dealer. This involves finding a suitable premise that is within the price range specified by the client. The business premise must also be within the central business district of New York City as specified by the client. After finding an appropriate premise the next step will be to renovate the business space in order to comply with the needs of the client. The client has not given specific instructions on exactly what needs to be installed in the business premise but has chosen to leave creative control to the project manager. This endeavor is expected to take a total of thirty days. This period will involve searching for an appropriate business space, making necessary renovations, installing technologies supplied by the client and ensuring that the premise is ready for use by the client within a thirty day period.

Project objectives

There are a number of project objectives which are integral to the satisfaction of this client. The first objective is finding a premise which meets the business needs of the client. This involves seeking a premise which is strategically located in an area with a sufficient amount of clientele in the electronics business. The second objective the second objective is setting up a premise in a manner that will appeal to the market demographic that the client prefers. This is the high end market demographic which is usually characterized with an obsession with the latest forms of technology. The third objective is the third objective is ensuring that the setup of the premise offers a competitive edge. This competitive edge is meant to ensure that consumers will refer this establishment to the competition based exclusively on the set up of the premise.

Customers and stake holders.

The customer is the client who has hired us to set up the business premise. This client is, however, a representative of a large chain of electronic shop owners. Thus, one major stakeholder in the project is the franchise chain for whom the project is being undertaken. Another stakeholder is the New York City administration. Since this establishment will be in New York City it has to conform to the specifications set up by the local government.

Key milestones of the project.

The first major milestone is finding the prime location for the establishment. The second major milestone is the renovation of the premise once it has been rented. This renovation is necessary as there are specifications which are necessary in an electronics shop and may not be available in any conventional business establishment. The third major milestone is setting up the business premise. This involves setting up the devices provided by the client.

Timeline for key tasks

The location of the business premise should take one to seven days. The renovation of the premise should take seven to fourteen days. The setting up of the premise should take three to seven days. These activities are to appear in a chronological manner.

Cost of the project and staffing resources.

The project requires heavy staffing especially during the renovation stage. The renovation activities will include setting up of lighting, power systems, and ventilation and security systems. This is an endeavor that will require fifteen employees. The setting up of the premise after the renovation will require seven employees.

The cost of renting a 5,000 square feet space will be $5,000 on a monthly basis, with a first and last month’s deposit included. The renovations are estimated to cost $25,000 and the setting up of the premise will cost $7,000. There will also be a cushion for extraneous expenses and/or repairs of $10,000. The lead contractor’s salary will be $4,000 for the month. There will also be a $75,000 budget for the purchase and stock of electronic merchandise. There will be a project coordinator that works directly with me that will oversee the project from the front line and report to me. This salary will be $7,000 for the month. Challenges facing the project

The biggest challenge for the project is completing the renovations of the premise within the specified time period which has a maximum of fourteen days. This is challenging because there are a lot of changes which may need to be made to the premise. There may also be unexpected delays and repairs that need to be made that may offset the budget and timeframes that are in place for this project. This challenge will be overcome by stratification of the renovation process. This means that the employees will not work in unison on the renovation process. Rather there will be specific sections of employees tasked with specific aspects of the renovation process. There will be people tasked with lighting, others with ventilation and others with the structural appearance of the premise. This will ensure a higher level of accountability among the employees and enable an easier monitoring of the process
