Assignment Objective: Create a rough draft that further develops your opinions and support to present for peer feedback. Template Document: APA Formatted Essay Grading Rubric: Essay Grading Rubric (this document is use to grade the final copy of the essay - you are expected to review this rubric to meet the expectations for the unit assignment.

The rough draft, like the outline, is an often skipped step of the writing process. Too many students submit a rough draft of an essay as their final copy and their grade suffers due to avoidable errors. The rough draft allows you to bring together your opinions and support and, if necessary, reorganize and reshape your support.

How "rough" should your rough draft be? I don't expect perfection at this point, but your paper needs to be as nearly perfect as possible. Think of it this way: would you be proud to send your paper at this time to your boss or the board of a company? If not, then I don't want it either. And your peers won't want to read it and give proper feedback if they can't even get through the grammar problems or issues with basic formatting. It is expected that you have at least eight-five percent of your paper completed, which includes editing for grammar. Leave notes for your peer group and instructor if there is an area you are still developing or are unsure about.
