A pretty good order is as follows:
1 – Put the story into historical content. This means to look at the story as to what the setting is that the author picks. For example, Poe picks Italy, probably near Rome. You have to find this information either in the text book or the best choice is your secondary sources. Traditionally, this is (1) 3-4 sentences and (2) requires a citation because you had to read something to determine when and where the setting is
2 – Identify the full name of the story – use quotation marks – thereinafter use a portion of the title, not the full title, in the body of the paper. For Example, “The Birth Mark” then becomes “Mark.” However, it is always a good idea to put the full title of the story in the conclusion
3. Identify the author … full name no title – thereinafter use last name only – no title – again, you can repeat the full name in the conclusion
4. Place the thesis sentence here
5. For each item that you plan to present in the paper provide 1 sentence to give a preview of the content … for example. The setting of the story provides isolation in axxxx so that the events of the story may take place. OR The setting of the story focuses the reader on the danger by placing the story in catacombs with dead bodies lining the walkway. Or The setting of the story provides the context of heaven, reality, and hell. Or whatever you wish to write.
