Considering Accommodations
An employee leaves a voicemail, asking for accommodation for worship on Fridays. The employee is asking to leave work at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays instead of the normal shift end time of 5:00 p.m. Given the size of Beta Technology and the dependence on every employee, Matthew wonders how he can accommodate this request. He asks your advice on a recommendation for action.

Voicemail from Employee Regarding Accommodation
Hi, this is Rebecca Natenberg. I need to speak to you regarding my schedule. I recently moved to Centervale and have been with Beta Technology for about a month.
Here is my issue: I am a practicing Jew and my faith is very important to me and my family. There is only one Orthodox Synagogue in Centervale and because it is a smaller synagogue, religious services are held on a very limited schedule; right now services are held at 4:00 p.m. on Fridays.
To further complicate the issue, the synagogue is about 45 minutes away from our office. I have spoken to the Board President at the synagogue, and she has said that they are considering changing this to a later time within the next year. In the meantime, however, I cannot attend services with my current schedule. I would like to request a modified work schedule on Fridays so that I can leave at 3:00 p.m. and attend services with my family.
Please let me know if this is possible.
