FOR KELLY JACOBS ONLY.
Hello Kelly,
This is the main discussion post from one student that you helped me with and now I have to response to her post with suggestions, asking questions or general discussion response on her topic. Can you please help me with this? Thanks so much
This was the main questions: I am copying so you can know what was asked.
· Create three research questions about your selected topic and develop a potential thesis statement. Then, identify the type of claim your thesis represents (proposal, ethical, value, etc.) and explain how you could use the appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos to make an argument for change.
Hello Everyone,
My selected topic is the dropout rate of students, and how parents and communities can help:
Potential thesis statement (Any suggestions would help):
The lack of supplies and extra help needed for students who are in need, can lead to them dropping out of school. Help from parents, teachers, and communities can help end this problem.
1. What is the current rate of student dropouts?
2. How can parents contribute to student success?
3. What can communities do to help with school supplies for underprivileged children?
The type of claim I feel my thesis represents would be proposal, it states the problem and proposes some actions that should be taken. I believe I could use logos as well as pathos as a way to make an argument in my paper. Logos would be a great way to show the readers facts as well as statistics to support my claim of how improper help and supplies can lead to student dropout. Pathos would also help to make a point in my paper because it will allow readers to become emotional about the topic and concerned about improving this problem.
I have never tried to make this argument to anyone, but I think if I were to make this argument to anyone and persuade them to agree with me. I would have to show statistics of student dropouts as well as trying to find some interviews/testimonial from people who have dropped out and what their reasoning was.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I’m not the best with thesis statements.
Thank you
