1-In this task you have to analyze the structure of all Noun Phrases (NPs) in each sentence including all the NPs in the embedded clauses/phrases in the 200-250 words in each text . You should identify all NPs in each clause and underline the head noun (HN). Type the 200-250 words here in this task for each text. Then, underline all NPs in each sentence in each text.
Then, draw a table for each text in which you write for each NP you underlined in the text the detailed pre-modifying elements showing clearly: determiner, numerative, describer, classifier, and Head Noun, and the post-modifying elements(qualifiers): prepositional phrases and clauses.
2- Task (write about 750-1000 words for the discussion, comments and comparison )
In this task you are required to write an essay about 750-1000 words in which you discuss and compare the structures of the NPs that you wrote in the tables for the two texts in terms of the number of NPs in each text, their complexity of structure (simple NPs or complex NPs), how simple or complex and why, taking into consideration the relevant features of the use of NPs in the news and academic prose registers: their numbers and complexity of structure in terms of the pre-modifying and post-modifying elements.

I remember as a child growing up in Britain having fish and chips or baked beans on toast at least twice a week on my lap while watching my favourite cartoon. Of course I enjoyed my food but it wasn’t something I often talked about. Now, I’m not blaming my culture for my lack of interest in food at an early age. Perhaps my silence was due to the fact that I didn’t know anything about food. How many children know that prawns only turn pink when they are cooked and that tuna does not come from a can? Now after having lived in Southern Europe, Asia and Australia I find myself talking about food all the time. The world has seduced my taste buds and opened my mouth. Food that’s plain and simple is often the best but not always so. For many of us food is a need. For others, food is a friend. Yet to some others food is an enemy. Cravings grip us at all the wrong times while we struggle to follow a strict diet that turned all our favourite desserts into mortal sins. There are others who regard food as an investment. To them, food has some kind of special powers that can control their lives, for better or for worse. If that’s the case, it’s time to change and make food work for us.

Human self-consciousness as the metarepresentation of ones own mental states and the so-called theory of mind (TOM) capacity, which requires the ability to model the mental states of others, are closely related higher cognitive functions. We address here the issue of whether taking the self-perspective (SELF) or modeling the mind of someone else (TOM) employ the same or differential neural mechanisms. A TOM paradigm was used and extended to include stimulus material that involved TOM and SELF capacities in a two-way factorial design. A behavioral study in 42 healthy volunteers showed that TOM and SELF induced differential states of mind: subjects assigned correctly first or third person pronouns when providing responses to the stimuli. Following the behavioral study, we used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in eight healthy, right-handed males to study the common and differential neural mechanisms underlying TOM and SELF. The main factor TOM led to increased neural activity in the anterior cingulate cortex and left temporopolar cortex. The main factor SELF led to increased neural activity in the right temporoparietal junction and in the anterior cingulate cortex. A significant interaction of both factors TOM and SELF was observed in the right prefrontal cortex. These divergent neural activations in response to TOM and SELF suggest that these important differential mental capacities of human self-consciousness are implemented at least in part in distinct brain regions.
