Many factors contribute to the mid-air collision. Human error account of at least sixty percent of the flight accidents that occur. In early nineteen century “see and avoid “was the techniques used to prevent the occurrence of the accidents. This was very critical and dangerous due to the effect of the uncontrolled airspace and the increasing air traffic (Soucie & Ozzie, 78).
Though the safety standard of the aircraft is high, the pilot is not immune from the aircraft accidents. Statistically indicates that the mid-air line accidents always occur during the daylight hours, and it is always the greatest nightmares for the pilots. The most astonishing is that the airlines accidents occur approximately six miles from the airport. 1910, the city of Milan recorded the first mid-air collision. In the mid-fifties of the nineteenth century, great distance occurred when the aircraft collided due to uncontrolled airspace. In both cases, causalities were high since many people died.
Due to the increasing air traffic the probability of the occurrence of the mid-air collision was two collision for every year. It was clearly demonstrated in the year 1996 when the Saudi Arabia &747-100b collided with the Kazakhstan airline. The Saudi Arabian airline lacks the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)-system which prevents accident between the aircrafts. This shows that flight engineer lack training, the fear of being embarrass and no confidence so that he/she could speak up against why the plane lacks TCAS (Ckert, 50).
The design of the aircraft is a contributing factor in the cause of airline accidents. When the design of the airline fails to satisfy the laws of nature, then a potentials disaster is knocking. Mechanical failure usually occurs because of poor maintenance of the machine. When the mechanical failure occurs, it becomes a night to crew on how to solve the problem. Sometimes the flight engineer because of the complexity of the problem cannot solve the problem. At this moment, the safety of the airline depends entirely on the mercy of nature (Tejada, 30).
Aircraft are becoming the missile of mass destructions due to the problem of the terrorism. The September 11th accident caused a massive destruction of the economy of the US and the world. Every person would wish to be economically stable. Most of us work so much until we lack time to refresh our bodies. The National Transport and Safety Board (NTSB) was shocked to learn that the Air Traffic controller gave in to the demands of the body and slept. This lead to the review of the policies by the NTSA (Ckert, 50).
It was not until late nineteen century when the safety of the air improved by the introduction of TCAS. It is imaginable to be within the scene of the crime when the aircraft accident occurs. Since mostly the fatality rate is hundred percent, the NTSB come up with the measure to curb the problem. The reason was to assure the user that the safety of every aircraft is high. The reason for equipping the aircraft with the Traffic Collision Avoidance system is to pick the send to the transponder receiver of the aircraft. The transponder then sends the signals to the cockpit to notify the pilot of the danger ahead. The Federal Aviation Administration advice that when there is a conflict between the air traffic controller and the TCAS resolution. The priority is for the Traffic Collision Avoidance System.
Recently the number of the of air accidents has drastically reduced the number however if the fatalities are still high. The ratios of the fatalities to the accident clearly indicate decrease airline accidents and increased number of the fatalities. The survival is rate is approximately two percent (Tejada, 30).
The human resource is always the important to the success of every industry. Failures and success depend on entirely on the human resource. Therefore, the government of the US realized that air travel to be always the disaster. The governments when ahead to define the parameters that governs airlines travel. The government has the responsibility to instill confidence to the consumer that the air is always safe (Soucie & Ozzie, 78).
To reduce the number of the accident in the airlines, the flight crew must maintain the sequence of flight plan correctly. The flight crew should always crosscheck the route flown. The crewmember must be brief about the path so they can prepare themselves very well. All the relevant information should be disclosed to facilitate the movement of the vehicle. The crew must be aware of the engine procedure so that when their mechanical problem they are to follow these rules (Ckert, 50).
The standard instrument of the departures should be followed to increase the safety of the plane. The crewmember should be familiarized with the flight they expect to take. Programs that familiarized the airport and the flight should be used (Tejada, 30).
The safety of the airline is a collective responsibility to every one of us. Though they are bodies that handle it safety in the airline, it said that charity starts at home. We do hold the ultimate responsibility by making sure all the guidelines for safety is always maintain. We must demand more from the authorities and hold the standard of safety high. In doing so, we shall have accomplished a milestone for our future generations and us (Ckert, 50).
