Interview
In preparation to complete my research paper on my major in nursing, I interviewed Anne Peterson a Californian resident who has been working in UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland – Oakland for about 5 years, now. Here is her responses to my questions.
1. Where did you get your higher education?
Biola University
2. What was the good and the bad in year education?
Probably the good was that nursing course taught me social skills in life such as courtesy and politeness and opened my life to many nursing opportunities such as career in research and advisory role in policy making in medic in my state California. The bad is was dealing with class work and strict syllabus.
3. What is your major?
My major is Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
4. Are you in any organization?
Off course I work in UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, were I take care of ill infants
5. What is the definition of education?
Probably education is the process through which people acquire knowledge various fields for instance in nursing in my case and social skills obviously from schools
6. Did your college meet up with it?
I acknowledge my college for imparting the necessary knowledge in me that is why I can carry on successfully, thus far in my career. I am currently taking a masters degree in nursing.
7. Did certain classes more value than you expected?
I never underestimated any class. I tried as much as I could to balance my grades. I scored an average grade A
8. Were some classes irrelevant?
I don’t think so. Every class played a major role in shaping my success in my nursing job. In imparting the necessary knowledge and social skills to enhance my interaction with recipients of my nursing services today.
9. What was the good and bad in your education?
The good in my education was gaining nursing knowledge that enables me give informed care in nursing practice today and social skills that allow me interact ethically with patients, colleagues and others. The bad was strict school schedules characterized by numerous research writing, tests and pass marks which pushed me so hard that I felt pressured to complete the course and lacked enough time for leisure
10. What are the pros and cons of career?
The pros are having an opportunity to help other especially the ill and off course the financial reward and other benefits such as public respect that comes with nursing career. The cons are strict code of ethics that nurses have to stick to for ethical practice
11. Do you think the higher education worth it?
High education is significant in shaping nursing student’s knowledge into more practical skills. It also imparts confidence to learner in preparation to nursing practice
12. How does promotion work? ( mobility)
Well, in nursing promotion can be an honor for excellent services to the public or a reward for furthering your studies in the career in higher education.
13. Was this major the first thing you thought about in high school?
Not at all. My first career was pilot. I revised it to physician after meeting my mom’s friend who is a physician by profession. And later developed an interest in nursing. And yeah here I am.
