Portfolio Project (Options #1 and #2): Interview Subject and Summary of Theories (20 points of the Portfolio Project)
Review the Portfolio Project Descriptions on the Week 8 Assignments page and the Portfolio Project grading rubric. The Portfolio Project will be due at the end of the course before midnight of Week 8.
This week, select which of the two Portfolio Project options you will complete. Before midnight on Sunday, submit the name of the person who will be your interview subject, along with a summary of the theories that you plan to cover. Your approach to theory can change as you progress through the Portfolio Project, so the information you provide this week is not set in stone. Instead, this assignment provides an opportunity to begin thinking about your Portfolio Project and record your preliminary ideas. Your submission should be 2-3 paragraphs in length.Although you will not earn points in Week 2 for this deliverable, it is a required component of the Portfolio Project, and you will lose points on your final project grade if you fail to submit this assignment as required by the end of Week 2.
Portfolio project- management perspective
For my final portfolio project I choose Option 1 and the manager I choose to Interview will be my direct supervisor Marcus Lang. Mr. Lang first acquired his bachelor degree, followed by different professional courses and finally a master’s degree. With these credentials he managed to climb the ranks within the company ranging from junior level to the senior position he currently maintains. Some of the theories I plan to incorporate into the interview are as follows: In order to become an effective leader one must be ready to act as an example to his junior officers at all times, goals help management position the company’s future, objectives provide the current position of the company, decision making provides outcomes and finally communication helps in employee-management interaction. I feel that management has to ensure that policies are kept in place to facilitate the implementation of new changes to be made in the company. I also plan to discuss how employee behavior and character can influence the performance of the firm. I am quite sure that Mr. Lang being in his current leadership position will be able to understand these behaviors and be able to show ways to use them to enhance company performance. Mr. Lang strongly believes that one of the most effective ways to create a conducive environment for employees is by creating an open communication network that can enhance employee-employer relationships. In order to become an effective employee, one must be able to put his or her effort in the work assigned and produce the best result that can elevate the company’s performance. Managers can be become effective when they are able to reach out to their employees and ensure proper relationship.
