Program Transcript
Jordan Garcia is a 13-year-old male. His mother, Mrs. Garcia, has brought him to a
treatment agency because he is exhibiting behavioral and academic problems in school.
He has always had difficulty concentrating and sitting still, and he has been treated for
ADHD in the past.
Jordan is the middle child of the Garcia’s three children. Mrs. Garcia is Asian-American, and
Jordan’s father is Mexican-American. Although English is the primary language spoken at
home, when Mr. Garcia’s parents look after the children they speak Spanish. Mrs. Garcia
says the family is supportive of getting Jordan into treatment, but the case manager has
noted that the father did not come to the assessment with them.
Lately, Mrs. Garcia has noticed a change in Jordan’s friends and feels that he is pulling
away from siblings and peers. She reports that he seems to be more irritable and has
mood swings. She also thinks he is depressed. His personal hygiene has deteriorated
and he is unable to keep his room clean.
She recently found rolling papers, lighters, and other items that suggest drug use in his
room. He also seems more anxious and aggressive. Mrs. Garcia has tried addressing these
issues with Jordan, but he just becomes defensive and angry.
