Chapter III: Methodology

The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY), a government agency in Saudi Arabia, seeks to advance the goal of creating a world-class industrial hub in Saudi Arabia. The quality control department must make sure that RCJY’s projects comply with company set standards for quality and international benchmarks by monitoring new and completed projects on a regular basis, creating management reports on quality status, and recommending solutions for quality-related issues. The department is not able to form an expert team, as there is also a lack of proper knowledge transfer and employee training which threatens the company’s overall competitiveness. The question therefore is; how can the quality control department improve its effectiveness?

Study Design

Three data collection sources was used to gather information from management committee, and employees. These data are questionnaire, interviews, and document analysis. Both qualitative and quantitative data was required. This accomplished by the use of interviews and questionnaires respectively to accumulate data from at least twenty respondents inside the organization.

Sampling procedure

Sampling was done through stratified random sampling technique (Rossi et al, 2013).The population was divided into groups; management committee and employees. This procedure was chosen because it was fairly easy for the researcher, considering the availability of time allocated for the study and gave in-depth information. With this technique, the researcher had a higher statistical precision compared to simple random sampling. This was because the variability within the subgroups was lower comparing to the variations when dealing with the entire population. Because this technique has high statistical precision, it also means that it requires a small sample size that can save a lot of time, money and effort of the researcher (Rossi et al, 2013).

The Study Area

The data was collected within the RCJY organization management committee members, employees and customers. The study area was minimized to within the organization because of time shortage and financial expenses like transport.

Privacy

Protecting privacy and personal information was very much considered and therefore questionnaires and interviews were answered privately and the information kept confidential and restricted from access to any other respondent.

Instrumentation

In order to successfully gather information from respondents, the researcher had several points that the respondent had to come up with his/her own opinion. This included; RCJY quality control department weakness, ways how the department can improve, staff hiring and training, future of the RCJY’s quality control operations, progress of the RCJY’s quality control department, How can staff communication be improved in the quality control department among other related issues.

Questionnaire

Open format type of questionnaire was used and objectives (as mentioned in instrumentation) of the survey first analyzed, the questions were based towards RCJ management committee, other employees and customers (Elliott, Mark & Shapiro, 2012). After that the questions were put down and revised to make sure they are valid

Interviews

The purpose of the interview as outlined in instrumentation was first explained to the respondent in preparation; Standardized type of interview was used were respondents gave their own opinions, questions were arranged in sequence, questions made open ended, one question was asked at a time, responses were much welcomed and encouraged(Targum et al , 2013). Respondents were also controlled not to get out of topic.

Document analysis

Examining archives was very helpful where the historical backdrop of RCJY’s Quality Control department was significance and where private and in addition open records were required (especially valid in general wellbeing exploration). It was very useful to set up a survey that was filled in for every archive read and investigated. (Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, 2010) That way the researcher had a good arrangement of data that was effortlessly open and supportive in looking at reports and cross-referencing. This kind of data collection was intended to catch the accompanying data, however the following points were observed keenly to ensure the content was valid and corresponding to RCJY’s Quality Control department; Connection to research question (e.g. pertinence, significance, sort), title of archive ,date of distribution ,Why was the record composed, content (e.g. openness and lucidness, proprietorship, contention) ,how was the record created (e.g. reason and degree, objectivity, qualification) and what was the circulation arrangement (Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu,2015). Document analysis was therefore important for the data collection and reference for the study.

Data analysis

The data analyzed to make sure it related to the research questions.  An exploratory analysis technique was used to analyze data consistency and reliability by inspecting the variance of the information (Teo,2012) The big question was whether the study fulfilled the intentions of the research design.

Limitations of the study

Several limitations encountered during the collection of data. First, was the language barrier of the Arabs unable to communicate in English, second, some respondents were not thinking within the full context of the situation. Third, people reading differently into each question and therefore reply based on their own interpretation of the question - i.e. what is good to someone may be poor to someone else; therefore, there was a level of subjectivity that was not acknowledged. Finally, time was also limited.

Summary

Data collection routines utilized incorporates questionnaire, interviews, and document analysis. Questionnaires were essential gadgets for social affair study information, giving sorted out, and frequently numerical data. Moreover, they had the ability to be coordinated without the region of the examiner, and habitually being about straightforward to examinations. Interviews then again were the most huge data social event instrument of the concentrate and used to confirm and check discernments.

Document analysis was helpful to set up a review that filled in for each chronicle read and researched. That way the analyst had a decent game plan of information that was easily transparent in taking a gander at reports and cross-referencing. This sort of information gathering proposed to get the going with information.
