Discussion Borad
Discussion Board: (will open Sunday evening) Parenting is a very sensitive topic, even within groups/culutres. My advice to new parents is usually to ignore 90% of the rest of the advice that they get from others. But, what does the research say about parenting styles, punishment, attachment, etc across cultures that we haven't yet discussed this week? Well, this is your opportunity to do some research on your topic of interest as it relates to parenting and diversity.
Pick a topic and a culture of interest and look for a reserch article through the library databases. Be sure to exclude newspapers, books and opinion pieces from your search. Read your article and report back to your group DB on your findings. Be sure to include a citation and reference for the paper you read (using APA style of course) so that others can find it should they chose.
Example: I've come across episodes of Toddlers and Tiaras on the TV late at night when I am feeding the baby and it's made me wonder about the parenting styles of those on the beauty pageant circuit. This can be considered a cultural group in a sense, as they share values and experiences. So if I wanted to research this question I would start off by going tohttp://lib.asu.edu and using the search engine to find articles. You may not find anything with your inital set of key words, so you might have to revise and try again.
Remember to review the discussion board posting guidelines in the syllabus before you post.
