This company basically involves producing entertainment content for both children as well as adults. DHX Media Company is basically involved in producing the best movies and entertainment shows for the entire world to enjoy. Many movies which are not made by this house of entertainment are chosen for distribution by this agency. This company has four business units which are involved in the production as well as distribution of all the movies. These units include: DHX studio which make the highest quality movies as well as good quality entertainment shows for children as well as adults to enjoy (RTT News, 2015). This company also has the live action studio which is situated in Toronto, DHX distribution agency which is responsible for distribution of entertainment shows as well as movies all around the world, DHX televisions which is focused upon providing high quality TV shows to its viewers all around the world by using the media of small screen as compared to the large screen and DHX brands which is the unit of DHX media entertainment responsible for making large brands in the entertainment industry. These large brands are basically responsible for providing entertainment to kids all around the world by making various 2D as well as 3D movies (Toronto, 2014).
The revenues generated by this company is very large due to its immense popularity and fame among the families and especially among kids. In 2015, a record increase of about 127% has been noted in the revenues generated by this company and there has been 150% growth in the income generated by the company stakeholders (DHX Media, 2015). This company is mostly operational in US as well as Canada and owns a factory in North America. Just like all the successful brands and companies, the DHX media is also involved in extending its business to other origins of the world in order to increase its customer base as well as its popularity so that its profits generated could be given a further boost by moving to other regions of the world. The latest business venture decided by its senior management is that of Vietnam. The senior management wants to set up its operations in this Asian country as well so as to reach all the Asian countries quickly and more efficiently than before (CNW group, 2015). This report is being written in order to analyze and make a feasibility report by observing and analyzing the cultural, administrative, geographic and economic distances which the company would have to face after moving to Vietnam.
Discussion and analysis
Before moving to any new region of the world, every company goes with a feasibility analysis so as to check out if the business venture would indeed remain successful for the company. Such an analysis is always very important for the future strategic position of a company since it needs to evaluate and analyze all the factors before moving on with a certain business venture. The senior management has asked the consultant to review the problems which would be faced by the company in terms of culture, administrative, geographic as well as economic problems faced by the company. This feasibility analysis is as follows:
Culture
The organizational cultures and environmental cultural values are very important for the establishment of effective business corporations in different cities and regions of the world. As far as the Vietnam and United States of America are concerned, there are very obvious differences in their cultural values and growth as well (Global edge, 2015). The cultural orientation as well as social representations of both the Vietnamese a well as American people is very different from each other. Vietnam has been undergoing some major changes for the last 15 years in terms of technology as well as latest developments. Only 30% of the total population of Vietnam is above 30 which means that only a small percentage of the population is enjoying all the benefits of the latest technologies being introduced owing to the lack of adaptability of the elder people (World business culture, 2015). If any of the firms of the world are interested in doing business in Vietnam, they would have to understand this cultural diversity and differences existing in the population. Vietnamese people refuse to take risks as compared to the American people who consider risk as a part of their daily lives. For Americans, the fast thinking is much more viable since it presents them with opportunities for business and other purposes. As far as the risks are concerned, the Americans think of it as an opportunity and not as a threat like Vietnamese people. Another cultural difference which exists between the people of two nations is that the Vietnamese people do not take hasty decisions. Therefore, if a contract is required with the local population, they would take their time and think properly before signing an agreement (Global edge, 2015). This is another change from the American culture where people think after signing the agreements with potential business partners.
Administrative
The administrative changes which occur in Vietnam are also very important since the company’s management is the most important consideration, especially at a completely new place. The administrative differences would be present there as well. In the last 15 years, there has been a lot of development in Vietnam (itim international, 2015). However, the Americans are used to latest facilities being provided to them at their door step. This would not be the case in case of Vietnam. Also, the company would have to build up a separate commanding and control unit for its professionals so as to keep an eye on the work being done. This commanding and control unit would also be responsible for making adequate management plans for using its labor force and ensuring that all the projects are executed on time by the company’s labor.
Geographic
Geographically, there are many differences between the United States of America and Vietnam. Vietnam is located to the east of Indochinese peninsula whereas US is located in between the North Atlantic Ocean as well as the North Pacific Ocean. The border countries of Vietnam include Thailand, China, South China Sea, Laos and Cambodia whereas the border countries of United States of America includes Canada as well as Mexico (World Bank Group, 2015). These border countries play a very important role in the business done by any organization since the operations may be carried out through these countries as well and some technical support would also be required from the surrounding areas. In case of United States, both of its neighbors i.e. Canada as well as Mexico play a very important role in acquiring new technologies and could help in any way which is required by the DHX Media Company. As compared to this, Vietnam has only a few countries which have been technologically developed as Vietnam is. The only neighboring country which could be of any help is China since the labor could be acquired from China (World Health organization, 2015). The main advantage which could be gained in this area is acquiring cheap labor which is not possible in America at all. The climatic differences are also very great in both of these areas. For Vietnam, the climatic conditions are mostly humid and the climate is that of subtropical regions of this area. The climatic conditions of US are completely different from humid conditions since the climate of United States of America is mostly moderate but the climate become tropical, arid and semi-arid with the change in geographical conditions. Never the less, the humid conditions have never been faced by the production company employees. Therefore, it would be rather difficult for them to adjust at such places.
Economic
Economically, the operations at Vietnam would be more expensive for DHX Media Company as compared to those taking place currently in Northern America (Trading economics, 2015). The basic reason for this is that Vietnam is developed technologically but not to the extent that all the technology is available for the studio to be built. Therefore, huge expenses would be upon the company in order to take all the necessary equipment from America to Vietnam. Also, the expenses of travelling of Production Company between Vietnam and US would have to be compensated by the company as well (Economic studies, 2015). Therefore, the revenues generated by the company would face great decline by setting up business operation in Vietnam.
Conclusion
Therefore, it is not viable for the company to set its operations in Vietnam. The cultural differences between the two countries are greater and the economic losses would be huge as well as company would require funds for setting up its operations in Vietnam. Also, the somewhat backward technological background of Vietnam is a big disadvantage as well. Therefore, it is advised that the company thinks of some other place for the expansion of its operations so that its revenue increases.
