Occupational Safety Health Admiration (OSHA) place rules in the workforce or an organization to safeguard and protect, employees and customers. A well experience and educated Human resources department protect the safety and security inside a company or business. The company selected for the project is Sodexo Healthcare division. Sodexo Healthcare is responsible for the overall cleaning of the hospital, trash removal, and patient room cleaning and bio hazardous removal. The project will discuss in details the work rules and safety protocols that Sodexo has in place to execute the best practices for OSHA standards.
Sodexo is a contract services company within the healthcare industry. Standards, which apply to the company, are OSHA record keeping and reporting for all work related injures and illnesses, unsafe workplace conditions and communicating all hazards. Sodexo requires all accounts to keep employee-training records for 2 years and beyond of that employee last employment date for OSHA records (Sodexo). Sodexo Healthcare division main objective for employee safety is provide a secure and safe atmosphere and educating employees on safety.
According to (OSHA), health care workers face a number of serious safety and health hazards. They include blood borne pathogens and biological hazards, potential chemical and drug exposures, waste anesthetic gas exposures, respiratory hazards, ergonomic hazards from lifting and repetitive tasks, workplace violence, hazards associated with laboratories, and radioactive material and x-ray hazards.
Following recordkeeping, employee safety and training are essential, if any injuries happen by an employee getting hurt or coming down with a work related illness the organization can always go back to employee training record to make sure that employee was properly trained on handling the situation or problem related to the injury or illness. By following OSHA rules to maintain the reports of injures and training, the company is also in position to protect itself against insurance claims and court actions.
Safety and blood borne pathogen knowledge is essential for the organization beyond the workers. Whenever an issue happens with a chemical or contaminated item the organization hasn't obeyed the rules, the organization is likely to have legal cases as well as penalties, possible even close down. By following the set rules for defective process the organization can safeguard itself against these problems, nothing's more unpleasant when compared to an organization whose client or worker is injured or killed due to a product.
Sodexo main duty is to provide a secure atmosphere for the workers. Included in offering a secure atmosphere is following the safety rules for cleaning patient rooms, which include a risk of coming in contact with a blood born pathogen room, a contact room, different chemicals are used inside the hospital to clean certain contact rooms and the worker training and safety protocols are key. Employees must used the training they received to be aware of the room, they are coming in contact with and take proper precautious, when cleaning.
The organization can't afford to disregard OSHA rules, not only due to the penalties, but due to the lives OSHA saves. A clear knowledge of the rules as well as a strong execution plan is the easiest method to follow the rules.
