I think you are confusing the independent variable (IV) with the dependent variable (DV). First you say that the IV would be the manipulative predictor – in this case the noise level. Then you say that the IV would be learning the math lesson, but I think that would be the DV (i.e. some sort of test given to the students regarding how well they did after the math lesson was learned), as you claim the DV being at the end of your post. Also as Gravetter and Wallnau (2010) state it to be, “the variable that is observed to assess the effects of the treatment” (p. 16). I could be wrong, since I have been having issues with IV and DV all along, and you might have just typed it wrong, but I wasn’t sure.
You claim the IV as the two conditions regarding the listening of background music, but I was under the impression that the definition of one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a method of testing the equality of three or more popular means by analyzing sample variances (Triola, 2015), so there would have to be more than two conditions. However, I could be wrong again. Still having some issues comprehending all the different variables for the different tests.
