Assignment #3
Based on your research in Assignment #2, or based on any other segmentation scheme, choose a target market segment for any product.
Once you have identified the target market segment in a broad sense, use your imagination to narrow the parameters and imagine yourself to be a typical member of the target market you have chosen. Then take the following two personality tests pretending to be this person you imagine:

Note what the results say about this person based on personality traits.
Create a chart that shows the personality characteristics of this individual (see the example attached), then write a three page double-spaced paper discussing the marketing positioning strategy you would employ to reach this particular customer. Here are some issues you might want to consider:
1. Describe the person in the most intimate terms. Where does he or she live? Where does he or she work? What are his or her aspirations for the future? What is his or her outlook in life? What motivates him or her? What relevant attitudes does he or she have?
2. What does this person REALLY seek when he or she purchases this product?
3. How would you employ what you have learned in terms of how you would design the product, price, distribution and promotion for the product?
I choose pizza as my target market segment. I was imagined myself to be a typical member who did work related to the pizza. In my point, I would like imagined a person’s age similar with me, because I can imagine that person’s emotion better. After that, I took two personality tests as that person I imagined. The following statements are the characteristics of this person who were imagined by me.
The person I imagined is a boy, and he is a student study in the Kutztown University. His major is computer science, and his minor is marketing. His hometown is Allentown, but now he is living in the Kutztown. He has a part time job in the Domino, and the main job for him is deliveryman.
He likes to operate computer because of his major. Therefore, sometimes he would help the front desk to handle the online delivery when the employees to tie up loose. He likes pizza, also likes computer. For this reason, being an employee in the company of Domino is his aspiration for the future. But not only limited to be a deliveryman, he wants to be a computer engineer for the company, and make a wonderful website for their company. He hope to use his marketing knowledge to make their website more useful and effective.
He is a guy who really focus on his outlook, he wears different and fashionable clothes every day. He thinks different clothes must fit with different shoes, because outfit can give others the most intuitive first impression. His aspiration makes him works really hard in his major. In other words, his aspiration motivates him works very well in computer science and marketing. He believes that a stable academic knowledge can lay a good function for his aspiration of the future.
In my imagine, he is a guy really like to enjoy group works and entertainment activities. He likes to talk with others, cause he wants to know people’s mentality as a consumer. According to the imagine myself to be that typical person, I stood with his point of view to do these two surveys. The result shows his type is ESTJ. He has moderate preference of Extraversion over Introversion on 44 percent, this result the same as what I imagined, he is a joiner. He has slight preference of sensing over intuition on 19 percent, and he has marginal or no preference of thinking over feeling on 1 percent. The result of sensing and thinking shows he is doing things combine with thinking and feeling, rather than solely rely on intuition to do things. He has slight preference of judging over perceiving on 6 percent, that shows he is a person use fact to judge things, not rely on his own perceiving.
I gave him a set as a employee in Domino, that is why he should be more familiar with pizza, whether the process of making pizza or taste of pizza. I think he will be more severe than other consumer when he buy pizza. If he wants to be a manager of Domino company, he may go to test other pizza’s brand, and compare their different. Because he is a extraverted person, making market research should be suitable for him, he could get a lot of useful information for his company.
One typical example for ESTJ is they like to participate in any group activities, such as clubs, churches or other service organizations. He is a joiner as what I mentioned before. That is why I think he could being a good event planner in his company. He could plan special activities for Domino during some festivals. For example, he could plan when should Domino has discounts for its consumer, when should Domino has buy one get one free. Otherwise, tradition is important to the ESTJ, especially for some important holiday, such as birthday. He may buy pizza as his main food in his birthday, because he is really like Domino’s pizza. The last but not least, I found ESTJ is outspoken, he likes to talk and easily to express himself, also not afraid to standing in front of public. For this reason, person in the ESTJ always can be a good teacher, coach, political officer or management of all levels. If he is interested in management, I think his personality could let him become a good manager.
Finally, I would like to related target market segment which is pizza to 4P’s of marketing. Pizza is very common in United States, almost every restaurant has provided a wide variety of pizza. How could Domino stand out, design of product becomes a very important element. Domino could design its website more creative. For example, they could provide an interface allow consumer to DIY their own pizza, including the base material ,topping, cheese and sauces. Then, price is really important of a product. Actually, price is not make buy seller, it is what buyer expected to pay. Seller should make a suitable price not only suitable for the market level, but also the price should match customer’s expectations. There is one more thing, promotion is very important for a brand. I think a good way for promotion is advertising. Consumer has a lot of different channel can see the advertising, if the advertise is very attractive, that should be a good way to attract more consumer to buy its product. In my opinion, if Domino has a good advertising, they have won half. To conclude, 4P’s are really important for target market.
