Every year thousands of young people take their first steps into adulthood: freshman year of college. When anyone says its freshman year you immediately start thinking of the “freshman freedom”, but what almost all young adults neglect to think about is that the choices you make this year can impact the rest of your life. There are many changes and challenges that come with going off to college; maintaining good mental, physical and sexual health during your first year is one of those challenges. You are learning to balance a rigorous academic schedule on top of a sometimes more interesting social schedule. There are all of these new and exciting experiences from Greek life, to parties, to clubs on campus. With all of these new opportunities maintaining that learned balance is a key factor. Finding time to eat and to eat healthy between classes and social obligations is hard. You also have an enormous new dating field with a different set of rules and standards. The social pressures and the new factors of freedom, drinking and drugs create a new set of choices that could impact the rest of your life. The many sources I have found create the set up for my research. They have provided a vast number of studies, theories and research to many freshman year controversies. They all provide an unbiased foundation and give grave detail into the methods and variables used to come to their conclusion. Each study and the research along with it have all been conducted in different areas and colleges around the United States, along with many different variables such as the number of participants. This will give my paper many different angels and ideas on how to create solutions. Each source goes into depth to each idea they are explaining, from the freshman fifteen to how to maintain good sexual health; while still tying each idea together to give a fuller explanation on how the choices you make now, impact your life forever.
