The language of Social Media

Social media has changed the way we speak, write and brings new meaning to our words. People, companies and Television programs benefited from social media by using and communication. When we first had social media web sites young people are those who used it, but now almost every one has an account online. Television programs and companies have started using these websites for advertisement, and they got people attention. Social media gives every body the opportunity to be creator, by bringing new ideas for the world and to improve from our selves. Also adding easy ways to speak and write in our language.

First of all, because of social media writing became pleasant and easy.

Twitter for example is one of the most famous applications on social media, it allows you to write 140 characters, and therefore people start to abbreviate their words. Like ‘BRB’ for be right back, TYT for take your time, and ‘LOL’ for laugh out loud. These are famous abbreviations that used in social media, some people using these shortcuts to speak with their close friends. It also used in our real life, by using notes, for example when a person leave a not to his friend or roommate to remind him of doing homework. Mostly these shortcuts used for texting and conversations between friends and families. This is the way that social media changing our life, most of these words came from sites and online networking. Every time we see new words from Twitter and Facebook we start hearing it from friends and become familiar to us. Every body can write any thing no matter if it is right or wrong so that what makes people change the language and create new abbreviations. So, has social media changed the way we speak and write English? Yes, undeniably

Besides word abbreviations, social media added new words and made new meaning for our words, for example the word of ‘E-mail’ is not exist in English but it became word now and people using it, Facebook used common words such as like, wall, friend, status, page and profile. Selfie is a new word that became a trend in social media. It means to take a photo of your self by the front camera, and it became very famous in the world. Celebrities took selfie and post it in their account, people interacted with it and companies found it a good business so they start selling silfie sticks. Twitter helps you to be in touch with your friends and celebrities by follow their account and see their tweets, also you can reply on their tweets, retweet your favorite tweets so your friends who follow you can see them. It made our communication easy and efficient by adding special words and every web site has it’s own words that used differently from other web site.

The hash tags (#) represents subjects in our worlds that every body talks about, TV programs and newspaper are using the hash tags to make news more exciting because the amount of people who are using social media is huge. These ideas became good business for companies, most companies now using Twitter and Facebook for advertisements, and people got to know other companies. The hash tag is used in every subject or news that are trend on social media. For instance #world_cup, this hash tag talks about every thing regard FIFA World Cub what happens, who wins, which player is the best and so on. TV shows use these hash tags to see what people think about events or news, and they display people’s tweet. Another example of hash tags is the ice bucket challenge, this is a community service for people who suffer from ALS disease (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) by dumping a bucket of ice water on someone’s head to promote awareness of this disease and encourage donations to research. Now people use social media for researches instead of using Google and Yahoo.

In conclusion, social networking sites made our language more efficient and exciting. By getting new words, abbreviate our notes, getting new ideas and knowledge our selves. Social media proved that language can be changed, and that what we discovered new words and new ideas also it helped our lives to become more exiting than before. These changes happened to other languages too, it actually changes some cultures because language is part of a culture. I think that this revolution will continue to the end of the world because of the increase of users enormously. Every body has an opportunity to create new ideas and can show it to the whole world.
