Section 2 – IT project implementation at Telecomms Ltd
Telecomms Ltd is a make-up company, assumed to provide digital solutions in the telecommunication arena. The company has its core mission centered in providing solution to telecommunication networks by offering affordable devices, as well as services. The company has offices in United States, Japan, United Kingdom, and Australia, where it has huge customer base. Telecomms has embraced three IT projects that are aimed at improving its services, customer outreach, and its competitiveness in the market across its vast areas of operation. The three projects are; installation of business intelligence platform, implementation of Statistical Analysis System software technology, and creation of an effective network infrastructure.
Implementation of Business Intelligence infrastructure
Business intelligence is an IT project that can be considered as a crucial tool in Telecomms businesses. It is important because it is all about decision making, as it presents data in an easy and human readable way, such that decisions are made in a more informed way. BI is also needed for transaction processing systems to primarily provide adequate analytical and reporting requirement for the business entity. Business intelligence and data mining will be essential in online marketing in different ways. This is based on the need to provide ways of analyzing and effectively reporting all the valuable data that is embedded in all day application of a business, commonly supported by online transaction processing systems, OLPT.
Implementation of a Statistical Analysis System (SAS) software technology
Implementation of Statistical Analysis System software technology in the company will assist in data mining subsequently enhancing online marketing. The SAS Enterprise Miner supports data mining process in the following steps: sampling the data, exploring the data, modifying the data, modeling the data and assessing the data. In the first step, data is sampled through the creation of one or more data sets. In this case, the sample should be large to contain significant information, but equally small to process. It involves the importation of data, merging and filtering, as well as statistical techniques of sampling. The second step of exploring data utilizes tools to define transformations, values recording and valuable clustering among others (Sabherwal & Becerra-Fernandez 2009). The third step of modification of data involves techniques like linear and logistic regression, neural networks and decision trees among others. The fourth step of assessing data entails evaluating both usefulness and reliability of findings from the data mining process.
Implementation of Network Infrastructure
In regard to ICT needs of Telecomms Ltd, there is a need to create an effective Network infrastructure. Such a network infrastructure should offer a comprehensive solution that connects to all company branches in United States, UK, Japan and Australia. The eight locations are linked to a central server that offers real time access of information. Telecomms Ltd has five departments offering different organizational services, which in this case are the main components of the server. The five departments are Accounting, Sales, Engineering, Production and Executive management (Shinder, 2003). The eight locations are as follows: a corporate office in New Jersey, and corporate office in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Colorado, Tokyo, London, and Sydney.
