Argumentative Research Essay Requirements

Argumentative Essay: (at least 800 words, plus a Works Cited page)

In an argumentative essay, first select an arguable topic, think of an arguable research question about the topic, and then find one argumentative article, then begin with a formal summary of that article. In this essay, you will present both sides of an argument, state your claim, support your opinion, and provide counter arguments. Use at least three academic sources (research) to present evidence relating to the topic, such as facts, statistics, and quotations. Proper usage of in-text citations, paraphrasing, and a Works Cited page following MLA style is expected. By reading various academic texts connected to your topic, you will develop critical thinking skills (e.g., asking complex questions; making inferences, analyzing, applying, synthesizing, and evaluating information gathered from observation, experience, and reflection).

1) An ARGUABLE topic (choose something that someone will disagree with)

2) A minimum of 3 articles (MUST be from reputable sources and trustworthy)

3) Proper citations (both in-text and Works Cited)

4) A MINIMUM of 700 words (3 1/2 pages, plus a Works Cited page)

5) Complete all steps of the assignment

We will be having in-depth conferences about these topics and your research. I highly suggest that you do NOT plagiarize or buy your essay. If you cannot answer in-depth questions about your topic, I will refer you to the Academic Integrity Committee—period. If I even suspect you bought your essay, I will turn you in!
