Web. 30 Sept. 2015.

Indeed there is no doubt that concrete blocks have pros and cons. The article "Weigh concrete advantages of a block house", by Tim, Carter ascribes weight concrete advantages of a block house. As such many have been left thinking on whether the weight concrete houses have some advantages to the home owner. It is evident from this article that concrete blocks have advantages that have postulated many homeowners to use in large numbers. Talking of concrete homes in the United States of America is nothing far from being new as many homes are designed using concrete blocks. Concrete block homes are the best for the reason that termites cannot infest and destroy as compared with wooden frame homes. Everyone in this world needs a place where they call home, and as such human needs to design their homes with materials that will last long. There are many factors that will push one from choosing a particular material to build his/her home. Tim, Carter argues that concrete blocks are the best candidate for your home as it stands firm in case there is vicious hurricane winds. It is true that, concrete blocks can be easily installed with steel so as to reinforce your home strength and oppose the brutal hurricane winds.

In short the article answers the following pertinent questions; how do concrete masonry materials work in earthquakes? Why the concrete masonry material building is stronger than the wooden building? The writer of the article goes ahead and says that the concrete blocks works best in those areas with frequent earthquakes. The concrete blocks are designed with a high level of expertise viz a viz special steel rods are intertwined into the voids of the concrete blocks thus giving the much needed strength that can withstand any form of earthquake. Wet sand, cement and gravels are mixed and poured into the voids. The wet mixture will surround the reinforcing steel and once it has dried or cured it get the much needed strength to counter the earthquake. This show how strong the concrete blocks are in times of an earthquake. In addition, it is true that concrete blocks are stronger than the wooden frame houses. As such, the thermal mass which is created in the entire concrete block house makes some distinction between the concrete block and the wooden frame. Concrete blocks are stronger because of the thick masonry wall which is created and good for maintaining the comfort in homes. Tim, Carter says, “Most Native Americans used mud and masonry homes to stay cool in the extreme temperatures of the desert of the Southwest.” This offers the explanation that concrete blocks are the best as compared with the wooden frame homes. The article has offered a number of insights as to the advantages of concrete blocks when used to build a home.

In conclusion, for the concrete homes to work best there is need to for the blocks to be designed as to meet the set standards. When installing it, there is need to be the forefront in observing the industry regulations and needs. When all this are followed there is a total guarantee that the concrete blocks will deter earthquakes and work better than the wooden frames.
