Discussion Board Statement

Should retailers be responsible for safety conditions in garment factories in other countries? Discuss.

Students will write a discussion board essay, which is designed to assess higher-level critical thinking skills such as

analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Students are required to post an original discussion on the discussion page (on

CN-Online). The purpose of the discussion question is to provide each student with an opportunity to examine

real-life marketing management scenarios from the perspective of the marketing manager (i.e., not a consumer

perspective).

All postings should be single-spaced (ignore the reference on the syllabus that everything is double-spaced). When

you post your discussion, please include your name (last name and first initial is sufficient) in the title of your

discussion board. For example, “Beecher, H. Discussion.” You will find a specific forum for this assignment. Please

do not post in any place except within this forum.

The posting should be 350-450 words and will be evaluated based on the following:

1) Declaring and supporting a position on one side of the DB statement as it is stated (no neutral positions) (i.e.

you will either agree or disagree with the statement).

2) Presence of a logical and structured argument that demonstrates graduate level writing skills and incorporates

quotes or paraphrased material from the text and an external article*.

3) Clarity, conciseness, concreteness, completeness, and correctness.

4) Well-formed discussion from the perspective of the marketing manager.

5) Correct grammar and mechanics (including appropriate use of APA in-text citations and references).

*In building your position, include content from the text and at least one additional source. The additional source

must be 1) an article retrieved from any of the business related data bases on the CN library, or 2) a scholarly

article from a scholarly management or marketing journal. Articles from the internet (e.g., corporate, government

or general websites), or articles from sources such as NetMBA.com, articles.com, etc. are not scholarly sources.

When posting, you may create your work in a Word document and copy/paste it directly to the discussion board,

but do not simply “attach” the document. Some students are unable to open attachments. If your post loses its

formatting, simply state this at the bottom of the post and explain precisely what was lost from your original post.
