Project Proposal: Project Proposal: For this project you will investigate a focused ‘episode’ and investigate its role in Russian history before 1900 and write an essay of 1500 words that examines one or two aspects of the Russian experience: -security/military -economic development -science/technology/medicine -government -culture/arts/literature -class struggle, etc.
a) at least ONE Primary Source (a document or object produced by the people/during the time you are investigating. You need to explain why this is a primary source and how you are going to use it.
b); and TWO secondary sources that are scholarly historical articles or books about the topic. Discuss how these sources will help you to place the primary source in its historical context. Provide citations for these (not URLS) in this or a similar format:

Project draft:
Please submit your research essay outline or draft (***The more text you provide us, the better suggestions we can give you for the final version). These should include the following items:
Formal Title (underlined): A descriptive sentence that tells the reader about the project (here is your chance to be poetic).
Author name (include all group members, too)
Course number and Date
Body of essay (***Citations are required and you can use any method you want, but I prefer footnotes in the Chicago Manual style (http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html):
- Introduction (your proposal)
Then break your story up into sections divided by sub-headings:
- Part I - Sub-heading and then a discussion of what you think the reader needs to know first to follow your argument/story.
- Point a
- Point b
- Point c
- Part II Sub-heading
- Point a
- Point b
- Point c
- Part III (and so on until you have outlined your story)
- Conclusion (either a recap of the main points of your essay, a discussion looking forward from the end of your essay (some like to discuss how their topic relates to today), or both of these.
Bibliography divided into two sections: 1) Primary sources, and 2) Secondary sources
Add a map of the region during the time period (or close to it) into the paper and cited it.
