Heinburg, Introduction: Peak Everything
Reading this article has opened my mind to some things about this world and the future. I have realized that as time passes by the world is being harmed by many things such as pollution, population increasing and some energy sources might come to the end due to the impact and consumption of humans to the environment.
The twenty first century as predicted before that there will be many declines in the production. A graph in the article explains it all. Oil and gas production increased gradually from 2 billion barrels a year to about 20 billion barrels in 40 years from 1930 to 1970. Moreover, from 1980’s to 2010 the oil and gas production increased vastly from 20 Billion barrels to about 51 billion barrels a year in only 30 years. As a prediction its is thought that the oil prediction have reached its peak in 2010. The graph also shows that the gas and oil production decreases gradually until 2040. However it decreases a lot during the last 10 years from 2040 and 2050. It is hard to solve this solution as this is only a prediction but people should try to begin now to make radical changes, behaviors and attitudes to prepare for the future. I think we should start now as its better than to wait for the real thing to happen and shock us all.
In addition to this we realize from reading this article that there is so many peaks occurring at the same time together such as the average global temperature, oil and natural gas production, world water use: consumption, world water use: Withdrawals, Water availability, World grain production, Catching fish and Arable land and many more. “A classic self-reinforcing feed back loop sometimes occurs in nature but they rarely continue for long. They usually lead to population crashes and die-offs. The simple fact is that growth in population and consumption cannot continue unabated on a finite planet,” stated the author. The classic self-reinforcing feedback loop states that Population growth leads to Higher energy demand that leads to More fossil fuel extraction that leads to More energy available that leads to Increased extraction of other resources, and production of food and other goods. I 100% agree to this cycle and I think that if this goes on and on something bad will happen to this world and this world will be harmed.
These were the most things that took my eyes while reading this article/book. I have understood a lot of things that are happening or might happen in the upcoming decades. People, societies and governments should start thinking about the future and preserving other plans for the upcoming years. As the author said most people turn odd and tune out when the conversation moves in this direction this is because its hard to solve this problem and people are scared from the truth. Finally, more stuff might also peak in this century and the top three things are the economic equality, environmental destruction and greenhouse gas emissions. These three things will be hard to deal with if was reached.
