Movie/ TV show series Guidelines

Purpose:

Each student will review, summarize, and critique an assigned movie related to a mental health nursing.

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

CO 1: Provide nursing care to patients and their families in critical and emergent care settings based on theories and principles of nursing and related disciplines. (PO 1)

CO4: Demonstrate effective clinical decision making based on critical thinking skills and legal, ethical, and professional standards and principles when caring for patients and families in critical-care and emergent care settings. (POs 4 and 6)

CO 6: Practice competently in professional nursing roles in critical-care and emergent care settings under supervision of faculty and/or designated staff nurse. (PO 7)

CO 7: Use evidence including research findings from nursing and related disciplines to answer clinical questions related to nursing care of patients in critical-care and emergent care settings. (PO 8)

Requirements

1. Watch Grey’s anatomy show (season 04 episode 16 (starting at 9:29) and Season 04 Episode 17 (through end of segment regarding cement) the following http://www.watch-tvseries.net/series86/Greys-Anatomy/season-04-episode-16-Freedom-%281%29 It starts about 15 minutes in and then come back to episodes --- see cement with chemical burn, fasciotomy, rhabdomyolysis, effects of  alkaline causing the cardiac arrest.  

2. After watching the episode, you will be required to reflect on the following items:

a. Reports the different critical care concepts that are discussed with the scenario (20)

i. What happened?

ii. What did you observe?

iii. How did they treat the following issues: cement burn, acute kidney injury, acid/base balance, arrhythmias?

iv. What was done not according to evidence base?

v. If you were working there, what would you do differently?

b. Reflection (20 points)

i. How is this different than what you learned in class?

ii. What impacts the way you view the situation?

iii. What did you learn from this situation?

iv. What information can you share with other students getting ready to come into critical care

Style and Format

The paper should be typed and presented in APA format, including an APA title page, use of headings, references with in-text citations. Spelling and grammar will be evaluated with this assignment.
