Introduction
Every organization has to have authority for it to attain its objectives. “Different organization have different organizational structure which has a chain of command that is used to command, communicate and assign duties at the organization” Williams (2015). Management of an organization needs skilled managers and staffs who handle the organizations decisions in a better way. Every organization wants to be successful but the success of an organization depends on how authority is arranged and how the management is managing the organization for the organization to be successful.
Organization authority has different dimensions these dimensions help in the smoothing run of the organization. Chain of command is very vital in any organization. As a result, chain of command in an organization helps in identifying the right kind of person who makes decisions in the organization as not every person makes decisions in the organization. The chain of command in the management of an organization also help in clarifying what matters are supposed to be reported and who and at what time are they suppose to be reported. Unity of command is also very important in every organization, this is because it gives the staff and the workers in an organization an outline of who to report an incident to and that is the one boss. According to Williams (2015), he states that unity of command serves an important purpose that is to prevent the employees from receiving conflicting commands from two different bosses. Therefore, for effective management of an organization staff and workers are supposed to report incidences or receive commands from one boss in order to avoid confusion among the staff and workers of the organization for effective management.
In an organization there is also the line and the staff authority. This also helps in the management of an organization. Line authority helps in a situation where a person is allowed to issue commands and make decisions to immediate subordinates. The line authority is very important as it allows command and making “decision in the immediate subordinates which helps a lot in the management of the organization. There is also the staff authority which gives a staff the right to advice the subordinate but not given the right to command or making decisions in the organization” Williams (2015).
In organizational authority and management there is also the delegation authority. This authority is very important in the management of an organization as it gives the manger the authority to pass the authority given to them by the organization to their staffs. In this situation the managers can decide, assign and direct the subordinate to accomplish the task that the manager is responsible for. Williams states most mangers fear to assign work to staffs simply because managers fear that the subordinate will not do the work as they could have done it. Therefore, managers should trust there subordinate when they assign them any task to do for the better of the organization and this will allow them to do better things in the organization.
The degree of Centralization in an organization has an impact in the management of the organization. For example, in centralization authority all the decisions in an organization comes from the manger of the organization limiting workers in making even the smallest decisions in the company this at time might affect the organization negatively as the staffs cannot make any decisions. While in centralization is where even the lowest person in an organization can make a decision. It is essential to have good management of an organization in order to help the staff make better decisions for the organization.
