Performance reviews
Performance reviews can have positive and negative impacts on various aspects of employees. The employees are also affected differently individually by these appraisals. The morale, retention, and business operations improvement have to be considered in the performance review of employees. In today’s workplace, issues to do with performance improvements as well as performance management have become popular in business thus ensuring good performance of the company. Performance review is likely to reduce the morale of the employees if it is not conducted in the right manner. The reviews are meant to ensure continuous improvement of the organization’s performance. Therefore, it is good to approach performance review with the aim of retaining the employees. If this is done, the employee retention is likely to be high. There is also the likelihood of improvements in business operations if the reviews are well conducted (George, 2014).
The company uses a 360-degree feedback. This is one of the most common review system and requires that whoever conducts the review interviews an employee and writes direct reports. This type of performance review system ensures that there is a real interaction between the employees and the human resource officer charged with reviewing the employee. The technique allows the appraiser to have a complete profile of the employee. Wrong execution of this type of performance review will affect the company negatively. This is because, if a person knows his full profile will be known by another colleague at work including the information that could be confidential, they might be reluctant to give the information and cooperate. It also affects employees’ morale in their performance of the business operations. Their attitude towards the work deteriorates leading to high numbers of employee resignations (Henderson, 2014).
