Reflection Response
Requirement: 2 pages in length (excluding headings). Use only 1-inch margins and 12pt Times New Roman Font).
Reflection Derection:
So, for those of you who may still want a little direction, your reflection could refer to (but is not limited to) one or more of the following topics addressed within our readings:
* After readings, how would you respond to a social reconstructionist who faults humanists for not taking enough direct action: “Although the humanistic [theories] enables students to become knowledgeable about self and feelings, it . . . [does not offer] the societal perspective necessary for social change” (McNeil, 2009, p. 13). Is this a fair criticism of humanistic arts administration approaches too?
* What is your reaction to the political nature of social reconstructionist theories? Defend your reaction with examples from the readings.
* Now that you have a better understanding of Visual Culture Art Education and how it was influenced by social reconstructionism, how does this version of art education stack up to the others that we have discussed, such as Lowenfeld’s creative self-expressionism, DBAE, or the standards movement?
