I am pleased to apply for the TRiO Student Support Services Advisor at Santa Fe Community College (SFCC). My career in higher education for the past 12 years has proven I am skilled in working with students from a diverse academic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. I possess many of the preferred job qualifications mentioned in the job posting, you are searching for.

My work experience in higher education has given me the opportunity to gain the knowledge of academic advising with educational and degree plans; I can provide students with college admissions, registration and academic program information. I have knowledge of using a case management approach to assist students in monitoring and tracking their academic progress and fulfilling their long term goals pertaining to continuing their education and after they complete their program with SFCC.

I have a strong desire to help students succeed. I am knowledgeable and know the importance of student recruitment and retention. I am acquainted with the different resources on campus and also within the community. I have extensive experience in using Banner as well as navigating the student module/portal known as Jack and other job-related software.

I am capable of collaborating efficiently and effectively with other staff members and departments when making decisions among staff, administration, faculty members and students. I am also fluent in Spanish which would be an assist to working with students who Spanish is their first language.

The educational experience I have attained in studying Human Services and currently studying Family and Human Development, I have gained the knowledge on case management skills, and career counseling principles. I have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as decision making and problem solving strategies in making reasonable accommodations for students while still maintaining the academic standards of the college.

Being a first generation student I personally can relate to students of this audience. Through my own personal experience I can relate to the understanding and challenges first generation and under-prepared students face. I know first-hand the struggles and challenges one can experience while trying to raise a family, go to school and work a full time job.

I am a passionate and committed individual in helping students succeed. My experience, commitment to education and the willingness to challenge myself makes me an ideal candidate for this position.
