This Unit is written in chronological order to match the pieces in the Music Library tab that you see in WEBCOM and has information about each composition and about the time period that it was written in and information about the work and composer. Your assignment is to become a Disk Jockey (DJ) on the radio and write a script for me that you will read to your “make belief radio audience” which will include the top ten compositions from the examples in our textbook list of musical compositions. You will read about the works by reading the text and listening to the music from the play list that is available in the Music Library tab that are in the folder that says Parrott that is in NAXOS MUSIC LIBRARY. You will go to the data base called Naxos Music Library and look for the play list. You do not have to type anything since the list is already prepared for you.

You are to pretend to be a Disk jockey at a radio station and the purpose of the assignment is for you to become familiar with the types of music from different time periods. I hope that you can have fun with this. You can pretend to be a talk show host DJ type of individual who is popular on a show that you find especially interesting to you. If you like cars, then pretend to sale cars and if you like food have a food show or a restaurant could be sponsoring you. You may want to include commercials as well. This adds interest. You are given points for being interesting and creative as well. You should know who your audience that is and what type of show you have since then you will know what you want your music to be.

ASSIGNMENT IV:

Music Assignment

Directions:

You are to listen to all 25 pieces while reading the text for UNIT IV. Then you will pretend to be a radio Disc Jockey and host a make belief radio show telling your audience you top 10 pieces. You will pretend to be an announcer and write a script that you will be reading to your audience before you play the piece of music over the air. You select 10 or the 25 to play and describe to the listening audience what they are to listen for. You give information about when the work was done, any pertinent interesting facts about the time period, composer if known and information about what to listen for. Use musical terms such as dynamics, loud or soft, fast or slow tempo and rhythm, harmony and melody. You will hopefully have fun with this assignment. Please listen to all of the pieces which are written about and be sure to read the entire section on all of the compositions. Read and listen at the same time. You are to be as if you are on the radio ( a DJ). Write a script in paragraph form. You use the following form to help you so that you include pertinent information in your script.

Listen to all pieces several times so that you will remember them before you select which of the ten you will want to write about for this assignment.

Then write a summary of the experience that you had in paragraph form and explain your answers with some words (elements of music) that let me know that you learned some musical terminology while you read your text book material.

Be totally observant, specific and detailed in your comments when you describe the compositions that you have selected. (10 total)

Review the elements of music by reading about the terms used in music and watching the videos or find the Google sites to watch videos if you find this helpful as well.

Utilize the words in your answers such as melody, harmony, timbre, dynamics, texture, tempo and dynamics. These are the elements of Music and can be found in Unit I and Unit IV.
