RESPONSE #9 ARTEMIS AND APHRODITE

1. In Euripides’ tragedy about Hippolytus, Artemis was characterized as protective wise. This fits with ancient Greek divinity because in the Iliad, some people seem to be luckier. Artemis is certainly smarter because she realized that Hippolytus’s death is because of his nobleness.

2. I don’t think Hippolytus deserves his punishment because though he sad bad things about Aphrodite, the punishment is too harsh. Maybe he should receive punishment in other ways.

3. In both of the stories, Aphrodite is a very pretty goddess. In the Euripides’ Hippolytus, she killed Hippolytus because of his disrespect to her. In the Iliad, she left the battle only because a little scratch. Both of the stories showed that Aphrodite is not rational at all.
