Matrix Operations
Using Excel, solve for the unknowns.
x1 - x2 + x3 - x4 = 7
x1 + x2 + x3 +x4 = 5
x1 - 5x2 + 2x3 + 7x4 = 3
x1 + 2x2 - 7x3 + 17x4 = 21
Linear Regression
1) Use trend lines on the tabulated values given (Table 1) to obtain an equation relating time (x) to the temperature of some random substance (y). Test several different linear models (e.g. polynomials, etc.) to see which model gives the best fit to the experimental data. Plot separately, all possible trend/regression types showing R-squared value and equation. Only go up to the 4th order.
2) Explain why Excel would not allow you to select certain types. Decide what plot has the best fit and explain.
3) Is polynomial regression still a linear regression? If yes, explain.
In Discussion, discuss applications and usefulness of such an analysis.

Report Format
Reports must be computer generated (Word, Excel); spell check and use your best grammatical skills. The report should include the following as discussed in the classroom.
1. Cover Page - (5 Possible Points)
Showing name, assignment title and assignment number, due date and the date submitted.
2. Introduction - (10 Possible Points)
Includes background information and how it relates to engineering.
3. Problem Statement- (5 Possible Points)
4. Work - (45 Possible Points)
Formulating solutions, any calculations, results, graphs.
5. Discussion - (35 Possible Points)
Reflect on the work you have done (presenting and implementing design)
Report should not exceed more than 3 pages (double spaced) of text (not including Tables and Figure) and no less than 2 pages (double spaced)
