Directions:   Visit  www.change.org,  the  website  discussed  and  used  by  McKenna  Pope  to  create  real  change.     Spend  a  few  minutes  browsing  the  petitions.    Look  for  a  topic  that  inspires  you.  After  viewing  this   website,  think  about  a  problem  in  the  U.S.  today  that  you  feel  needs  to  be  changed.    Look  online  for   some  descriptive  information  about  that  problem  (e.g.  statistics,  information  about  who  is  affect,   how  many  people,  how  they  are  impacted,  why  it’s  a  problem,  etc.).    Consider  something  you   might  propose  to  change  and  influence  the  problem.    Think  about  a  reasonable  change,  something   specific,  that  you  could  ask  a  company,  organization,  government  official(s),  etc.  to  do/change.         Please  write  a  short  letter  to  a  person  who  could  impact  the  change  you  seek  (e.g.  an  appropriate   policy  maker,  a  leader/President/CEO  of  a  company,  a  leader  in  an  organization  such  as  a  school   or  non-­‐profit,  a  government  official,  etc.)  and  include  the  following  information  to  this  person:      

• Description  of  the  issue  you’ve  identified  and  include  some  relevant  data.       • Make  a  specific  request  (e.g.  change  to  a  process/procedure/regulation/etc.,  support  for  a  

new  law/regulation/product/process/etc.,  a  specific  action,  or  the  like).       • Explain  why  you  feel  your  request  if  reasonable  and  necessary.      

  The  letter  should  be  no  more  than  2  pages,  double-­‐spaced.    Be  concise,  but  compelling.    Please   think  about  proper  letter  writing  etiquette  –  how  the  letter  should  be  address,  introducing   yourself  and  the  issues,  a  proper  closing,  and  so  on.    Remember,  you’re  trying  to  get  something  to   do  something.    Even  if  your  letter  had  100,000  signatures  attached  to  you,  it  would  need  to  be   well-­‐written  and  specific  in  order  for  the  recipient  to  do  anything  about  it.           Please  save  your  letter  with  your  name  included  in  the  file  name  (e.g.  Change  Letter   Assignment_JohnDoe)  to  a  .doc/.docx/.rtf  file  format.  Upload  this  document  to  the  dropbox   provided.
