Cobalt Cola Inc.

i. Describe the following observable artifacts of your organization.

1. LogoSlide1.jpg

2. Motto/slogan: “Serving the best to the best since 1915.”

3. Describe office, factory and warehouse spaces:

We [Cobalt Cola] own and operate a large bottling factory that manufactures and bottles a variety of Cobalt beverages ranging from sodas to juices. In addition we take pride in dominating the fast food and plastic manufacturing markets.

Our facilities are kept very neat and organized. A neat workspace makes for a focused workforce. Office spaces are large and open, symbolic of the mind of our workers: open minded and creative. Our goal is to promote group thinking and teamwork throughout the sales, distributing and management processes. Although the office walls are primarily windows, conducive to getting the creative juices flowing, we have found space to hang company pictures from different events, projects and milestones from the company. These pictures include employee interactions, customers, the company logo and motivational phrases. This helps promote a comfortable atmosphere for all employees.

d. Employee attire: Both on the factory floor and in the office we like to promote a relaxed, creative environment. In order to do so, we wear relaxed business casual in the office. While in the factory or warehouse we wear our Cobalt Cola Inc. T shirts along with long pants, closed toed shoes and safety gear. If someone comes in from a different sector, say management comes in from headquarters, they are to dress in the same form of attire. The only distinguishing difference is the name tag worn. We want our employees to feel equal.

i. Traditions: At Cobalt Cola Inc. we strive to promote friendship and camaraderie among our employees. Throughout the year we have multiple department outings like picnics, go-carting, retreats and other stress free activities. For the past 75 years, we have had a year end company wide picnic in which all 25,000 employees of Cobalt Cola Inc. and family get together for a relaxed day of eating and fun to show how much we respect the hard work our employees do throughout the year.

ii. What are at least two espoused values of your organization? How would we know that you espouse these things?

· Succeed Together.

We strive to use teamwork throughout every process of the company. Having open group office spaces, weekly group challenges and even friendly employee competitions bring all of our employees together; it helps all of us focus on the end goal.

· Focus on the Customer.

Here at Cobalt Cola Inc we like to get our customers involved in different aspects of the process. We have monthly bottle design competitions for the customers (either online or during a daily tour of our factory) that anyone can enter. We want the customers to know and love what they are drinking.

iii. What are at least two basic assumptions of your organization?

· Quality:

Cobalt Cola Inc. is a company founded on excellence. We made a promise to our customers, and ourselves to only produce the best. Quality is assumed to be top notch at Cobalt Cola. We have no fears letting customers tour our facilities, learn about the product we provide, and welcome feedback.

· Positivity:

We look to employ positive people. Our organization was founded with a smile, and we plan to keep it that was. Customer service is of the utmost importance, and being helpful and knowledgeable with customers, as well as cheery is important. In the workplace we encourage ROA (Random Acts of Kindness). If an employee wants to bring in treats for others, we will gladly reimburse, in moderation of course.

iv. Describe a crisis that your organization has faced in the past, tell me how your leadership handled the situation.

Over time businesses face turmoil. Last year, we fell victim to an awful gas leak in one of our warehouses. Multiple employees were hospitalized. As an industry, we were afraid, not only for our business, but for the safety of our employees. As soon as word spread to the upper management offices a care package was sent to each person affected. We also sent a package to the families of the employees customized to their loved ones (ie if they had kids: toys/gift cards, pets: pet food/toys) as a token of our sorrow for the situation. A fund was started immediately by employees for the families, and whatever was raised we matched and gave to the families.

v. When a new employee starts work at your organization, how do you “socialize” the employee into your company? What is your new-hire onboarding process?

Cobalt Cola thrives on new additions to the company. On the first day of hire, all of the fellow employees will be e-mail notified about the new hire. Then upon arrival, our company will provide the new employee with a peer mentor for the week. This peer mentor will provide a tour of the company’s offices, overview his/her work for the week along with face-to-face introduction with the staff daily. Once the new employee feels comfortable after that week of orientation, that Friday a mandatory work meeting will be enacted. This allows for the company to realign the goals along with one last introduction of the new face of Cobalt Colas employee staff. Our onboarding plans are intended to make the new employees familiar with our overall goals of the company and support them as they begin their career towards success. This process is going to be as simple as a gift sitting on their desk the first day. This welcome gift includes a Cobalt Cola, employee t-shirt, employee name tag, a Cobalt Cola coffee mug, a watch and pens that write in cobalt blue. This allows the new hire to feel welcome and a part of the company’s striving success.

vi. To what degree does your company use technology? Website? Sell products on it?

We [Cobalt Cola] are very aggressive when it comes to incorporation of technology in sales. We are aware that technology plays quite an integral part in optimizing the sales of the company. To that effect, the company has vastly invested in online advertising. With a majority of the world now having access to the internet, it is very prudent for the company to have the capacity to reach this internet using demographic. Thus, most of the advertisements by the company are on an online platform. The company also has a dedicated website. On this website all the services and products of the company are readily available for purchase. Consumers can also make inquiries about the company’s services on the website as well as make suggestions on quality improvement.

vii. What is the communication climate like in your organization?

The communication climate in the organization is very conductive for success. As in every other organization, there are bureaucracies that dictate the terms and levels of communication between the different levels of staff members. There bureaucracies, however, only dictate communication on official capacity. On a social capacity, there is no limit on communication in the company.

viii. Are there honors, awards or incentives given in your organization?

There are honors given in the organization. At every annual general meeting, employees who have shown exemplary productivity are honored. This recognition is meant to make these employees perform better as well as motivate other employees to follow in their footsteps. It is also a measure to construct a formidable relationship between the employees and the management. This is due to the fact that this recognition shows the employees that the management acknowledge their hard work.
