Case Brief
PROCEDURE
Case briefing is important to virtually every legal field. You’ll brief the case found at the following website:

Make sure to follow the case briefing format found in the sample case briefing at the following website:
http://web.cci.utk.edu/~bowles/SAMPLECASEBRIEF.pdf
The following five sections of the brief must be included:
� Citation
� Facts
� Issue
� Decision
� Reason
Writing Guidelines
Prepare your answers in well-organized paragraphs.
1. Type your submission, double-spaced, in a standard print font, size 12. Use a standard document format with one-inch margins. (Don’t use any fancy or cursive fonts.) Your paper should be written in Microsoft Word or a Word-compatible program.
2. Include the following information at the top of your submission: Name and address, student number, course title and number, and the project number.
3. Proofread your work carefully. Check for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.

Grading Criteria The following is a breakdown of how your project will be graded:
Content 70%
Written Communication 15%
Format 15%
Here’s a brief explanation of each of these criteria:
Content
The student
� Provides a clear discussion of the assigned issue
� Stays focused on the assigned issues
� Writes in his or her own words and uses quotation marks to indicate direct quotations
Written Communication
The student
� Writes in complete paragraphs that include an introduc- tory sentence, at least four sentences of explanation, and a concluding sentence
� Uses the correct case brief format provided in the instructions
� Uses correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure
� Provides clear organization (for example, uses words like first, however, on the other hand, and so on, conse- quently, since, next, and when)
� Makes sure the paper contains no typographical errors

The paper is double-spaced and typed in font size 12. It includes the student’s

� Student number
� Course title and number (Legal Environment of Business, BUS315)

SUBMITTING YOUR FILES
Use the following instructions to submit your project online:
1. Go to http://www.pennfoster.edu, and log in as a student.
2. Go to your My Courses page.
3. Click on Take Exam next to the graded project number 50040500.
4. Enter your e-mail address in the box provided. (Note: This information is required for online submission.)
5. Attach your file or files as follows:
a. Click on the Browse box.
b. Locate the file you wish to attach.
c. Double-click on the file.
d. Click on Upload File.
6. Click on Submit Files.
