Volcano Morphology
Morphology is a word used to describe the shape of the land. Volcano morphology can reveal a lot about magma chemistry (i.e. silica content), volatile content, type of volcanic eruption, and eruption duration.
Instructions: Examine the morphology of each volcano below. Identify each type of volcano (shield volcano, cinder cone, composite cone, volcanic dome, or caldera) plus the magma type (mafic, intermediate, felsic) and volatile content (high, low, or variable) responsible for creating each volcano. The scale bars show relative (not exact) sizes.
