Beauty or Brain
The beauty advantage is important in today's economy. External appearance is the first impression that attracts anyone. In fact, everyone look at the physical beauty of a person first. Therefore, it is an important factor in the assessment that others feel about one at a first time. “Beauty has more influence than ever-not just who we work with, but whether we work at all.” (Bennett) However, the outer beauty cannot decide everything. There are three factors such as education, work experience, and having a great attitude to consider when hiring a new employee.
Education is the most important factor in employment. Educated people can assert their position in the eyes of people around them. They have knowledge and feel more confident to express themselves well in a certain jobs. Indeed, education is a platform to build their future, "maybe they do better in school and, ultimately, at work." (Bennett) Moreover, they gain jobs very easily and prove themselves quickly.
Another factor more important than looks is work experience. Besides education, an individual also should have good experience to support their job. Work experience can save time for managers, and co-workers. It shows the manager what one has achieved throughout their previous job. In fact, very few managers would want to waste their time and money on providing generic training. Therefore, work experience is highly valuable, and experienced employees are more likely to be successful in their job.
A final factor more important than looks is having a great attitude with others. Demonstrating positive attitude, and building good relationships with colleagues is extremely important. For instance, being humble, respectful and helpful to co-workers or bosses when needed is invaluable. It can build a good relationship and improve one's career advancement opportunities. Likewise, it is important to have a positive attitude to have a long term working relationship with boss, and co-workers.
In conclusion, good looks are necessary but not sufficient to determine one's success or failure in life. Education, work experience, and a great attitude are three most important factors that a company to seek for. Thus, these are intangible charms and most powerful. If one wants to own them, one should go through the learning process and learn from books and experiences in life. Overall, it would be better to have brain because one can lose the beauty when they get old, but can use brain almost one's entire life.
