ETHICAL CODE IN HEALTH CARE 6
An ethical code for everybody in health care
An ethical code fort everybody is a British medical journal. The journal was written by Limentani in 1998. The significance of codes in providing structure in the heal care is one of the issues highlighted in the journal. Besides, it also provides answers to some of the ethical dilemmas in healthcare. Finally, practitioner in ethical issues is another area which has been elaborated in the journal.
According to Limentani 1998, one of the challenges facing health care today is the code of ethics. Just like any other career, heath care industries have set code of ethics that have to be complied with. These codes of ethics guide both the external; and the internal environment in the health industry. This study will evaluate the possible ethical code of ethical conduct in the health care industry. In this study, the key role and the limitations of the code of ethics will also be evaluated.
Limentani in the journal argues that health care administrators today rely on the ethical code for various reasons; first administrators use them in making decisions. These codes of ethics are made with the intention of modeling them in future. Employees and the stakeholders concerned are expected to adhere to these codes of ethics; as such it is easy for the administration to come up with rules that are based on the code of ethics. (Limentanic, 1998)
Secondly, code of ethics promote patient care, code of ethical conduct in medical help good patients care because it’s a base of eliminating errors by the practitioners in this industry. The third importance is the public support. When medical organization promote the ethical conducts, the general public will develop the require trust. This kind of trust is manifested in the kind of help that they give to the institution that they trust. In most cases, health institutions that are trusted top act ethically will always be favored by the general public.
Finally, research is another importance. Health intuitions rely on consistent research to improve their delivery. As such, medical ethics is required when conducting these kinds of research. Ethics in this field can be used as a barrier between the research and the gray line where the general public might not want to go. (Limentanic, 1998)
Purpose
The purpose of the study according to Limentani 1998 is based on the following aspects; the general code of ethics in the health care, the study also evaluates the limitations that are associated with the code of ethics in the health centers. Also, the role of the public has been out lighted in the study. Apart from the citizens, the role of the government in ensuring that these set laws are enforced also highlighted in the study. Finally, there is the integration of the basic human rights which have been incorporated in the codes. All the purpose of the study revolves around the question of the study that is “ethical code for everybody in the health care."
Hypothesis of the study
When it comes to hypothesis, the writer identified the following as the possible hypothesis;
· Are ethical code practiced in all health care centers?
· Who are the main practitioners in the code of ethics?
· What is the role of the government in the implementation of the code of ethics in heath care?
· What are the possible roles of the general public in ethical code implementations?
Variables
The dependent variable in the study includes all the response that can be measured. They include the frequency of ethical occurrence, the intensity of the occurrence, the regularity of the government and the public support and the possible violators of the code of ethics in health care. On the other hand, independent variables are those which the researcher of the study can easily manipulate during the study. They include the following; the number of correspondents that were the health workers in most cases. The number of health centers visited during the study. The government officials in the health centers who were contacted during the study. (Berwick, 1997)
Models
The conceptual model of the health care has been used to possible meaning and direction to the research. Also, the review of the research has been made possible using the conceptual model. In the conclusion of the report, conceptual model have been used to draw a clear conclusion. The theoretical framework, on the other hand, has been of substance in indicating the possible hypothesis of the study.
Design
The design that was used in the study is the systematic reviews. This is because the topic of the study involved a comprehensive survey. It also had to rely on other published reports regarding code of ethics in health care; this also reduces the influence of biases in the study. (Berwick, 1997)
Limentani, however, is not clear on the total number of subjects who were put into study. From the results however it is clear that some subjects were put into the study. The study was purely based on the health care organization. As the research, the question revolves around the ethical codes in the health care. As such, most of the subjects were found in these institutions. The study, however, did not stipulate how long it took, but from the methodologies and the outcome, one would easily conclude that it was less than one year study.
