Why are we doing a Free-Write?
- First step of building the outline
- Helps organize your thoughts
- Helps to determine what we need to research
- Helps to determine if we have enough or too much information in our three main divisions
- DO NOT WASTE TIME. We do this in class so you have less to do outside of class!
DUE TODAY!
- If you hand-write a copy in class, I need it turned in before you leave.
- If you want your original copy, take a picture and upload to the Moodle assignment link.
- If you work on a computer, upload to Moodle by the end of class today.

Exercise #1: Free Writing to Outline
- Step 1: Write down your three main divisions of the Body

- Step #2: Free-write underneath each main division. Write down whatever information you know about each sub-topic.
- DON’T WORRY ABOUT ORDER AT THIS POINT!
- Step #3: Review your free-write and group information into separate categories.
- Step #4: Now take your organized free write and create a rough outline by deciding on the main points, sub-points, support etc.
Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel
Mammoth Hot Springs offers a rich history.
A. Mammoth was built and used as an Army base to protect the park.
1. Mammoth was originally called Fort Yellowstone.
2. Many of the buildings are part the original army barracks.
a. You can take a tour that will show you a variety of buildings and their uses.
i. You can see the Superintendents house.
ii. You can even see the original jail.
b. You could also discover the different buildings on your own.
B. Mammoth was the original tourist stop due to its proximity to the railroad in Gardiner
1. The current Hotel is actually the third Mammoth Hotel as the other two burned.
2. The first and second hotels only offered rooms, although now you can stay in the hotel or one of the adjacent cabins.
