Abstract
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder also known as ADHD is a neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorder that affects nearly 3-7% of our youth ranging from preschool age to adolescence (Strine, 2006). ADHD is considered to be one of the most common diagnosed conditions in school-aged children today (Harpin, 2005). In this essay, I will explore what causes ADHD, how it effects the brain, its impact on behavior and performance. Lastly, I will explain the different methods of intervention that specialists use to control the symptoms and the different methods that teachers and school psychologist are using to implement successful learning strategies to help these children learn at a normal rate. Additionally, I will discuss some of the disadvantages of the different behavioral treatments used to control this disorder from a biblical view.
