She is a married stay-at-home mother of 2 teenage children. Her husband makes sufficient income for them to maintain an upper-middle class socioeconomic status. Hypothetical Case Study #2: Elizabeth
38 years old
Female
Caucasian
Upper-middle class
Sedentary Lifestyle
Elizabeth is a 38 year old Caucasian female. She has lived a sedentary lifestyle with little to no exercise her whole life. She does not get enough sleep often getting through the day with 3-4 hour naps at all times of the day or night. She works full-time and has a gambling addiction which is where she spends the rest of her free time. She is the single parent of one child and has never been married. Her diet is not stable as she is constantly trying new gimmicks to help her lose weight and she often skips breakfast. She drinks alcohol in moderation but does not smoke or consume any other toxic substances. She makes a decent income but due to her gambling addiction she is left struggling to survive financially every month. She does have a good support system of family and friends which help her appear to stay in an upper-middle class socioeconomic status. Recently Elizabeth has been having unexplained stomach pain.

Hypothetical Case Study #3: Taha
49 years old
Male
Lebanese American
Lower-Class
Unhealthy Lifestyle
Taha is a 49 year old Lebanese American male. He is married but has no children. He does not exercise but he does get a sufficient amount of sleep, sometimes too much sleep. He has not been working for over a year since he was laid off of his last job. His wife makes barely enough for them to maintain a low-class socioeconomic status. He has no family that can support him and only a few friends. His diet is poor consisting of canned meats, breads, pastas, candy and any cheap fast food that can be purchased. He smokes heavily and drinks alcohol often to “calm” him and “help take his mind off of things”. Lately he has been feeling tired (despite having more than a sufficient amount of sleep every day) and often short of breath with any amount of physical exertion.
