“Why I want a Graduate Degree in Business”

My name is Sadiiq Ali, I’m currently an undergraduate senior at Prairie View A&M University pursuing a degree in Finance, hoping to graduate in December 2015. Due to a low GPA I’d like to continue my education for Masters in Business. I’m enthusiastic, energetic, and exceptionally well organized student. I’m also widely read, well-travelled, and demonstrate good quantitative skills. During my undergraduate I had a few issues with my personal life that’s why my GPA is very low. My head department was aware of my issues, I was court ordered to do many hours of community service from Fort Bend County. My GPA was very good when I first started attending P.V. after than I was put onto the probation and as you can see it just started declining. I’m originally from Mogadishu, Somalia, I came to United States of America in 1992 to pursue a dream that all of the people in my country want to accomplish and I’d like to finish what I started. I have a few siblings in Somalia that I still take care of, I work and had to do community service. This is one of the other reason why my GPA went down, it’s a lot of stress for a college student to do all these tasks than attend school at the same time, there was times I never attended class because of time conflict. If I’m given another chance to make up for the mistakes I caused my education I promise that I will do my best to graduate on top of my class, find a good job and give my school the credit it needs. While I was attending Cypress Springs High School I was working at Hannah Beauty Supply as Customer Service to aid customers finding the products they need, my duties included greeting all potential customers when they walk into the store or into the area where the cosmetics counter was located, and offering free samples of products and help customers with cosmetic testers. I had to build business relationships by recording customers' contact information after they make purchases and then reach out to these same customers when we had new products they may be interested in. I worked at Smart Dealer Parts after Hannah Beauty Supply, my job title at Smart Dealer Parts was Procurement/Supply Cain Management. My duties as Procurement/Supply Chain Management was being responsible for introducing process improvements in the supply chain and identify new vendors/suppliers without jeopardizing quality and service delivery, managing the entire process in the planning of procurement and supply chain activities, inventory control, logistics and distribution, ensuring effectively-functioning processes to avoid costly delays and lost opportunities, and excellent communication and negotiation skills to persuade and influence others. While attending Prairie View A&M University I was working at gas stations to pay for my tuition due to having a low GPA I was denied financial aid from Prairie View A&M University. I had a lot of responsibilities while working and attending school, I was supporting my family in Somalia, as the second oldest son I had a lot of duties towards my family in Somalia. In Somalia it doesn’t matter if you’re the oldest or not you must take care of your family. This is why I’m pursuing this degree so I can further my knowledge, I want to work and start my own family here so I can tell my children what one can do with a degree. I’m a rare fine. I’m well-trained, ambitious, and yet very open-minded and very self-effacing. I would be more successful wherever I go, but I would believe if I ended up with opportunity with graduate degree. My long-term goal is to be actively involved in Energy sector, I look forward to such involvement in my country and here in America, and in one of the aforementioned areas would be the crucial first step towards obtaining my MBA. I am aware of the kind of dedication, resilience and resolve that it calls for. I feel that I am adequately prepared, both in having the qualifications, and in having the right mind-set for masters. I look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Prairie View A&M University.
