Discussion 2 (Protective Factors) – 100-150 Words
What makes one person respond to a fearful situation negatively and what makes them respond positively?
Take the recent problems with cruise lines. Many people heard about the cruise line problems and canceled trips, chose never to go on a cruise again, or decided cruising wasn't for them. And yet, others had the same experience with a much different result. It's these differences that researchers are trying to understand.
One theory is the idea of "protective factors". We all have a variety of protective factors from our culture, upbringing, personal characteristics that helps us to be resilient in the face of crisis. Researchers are looking into what these protective factors are and then looking to see how they can be increased throughout our culture.

Discussion 3 (Observational Learning) – 100-150 Words
I believe that observational learning is a very important method of learning to consider. I think sometimes we forget about influences around us. There are many situations in my life that I will never experience. But, I'm betting that someone I know or someone I know knows will experience it. And in today's society we are more connected to the world around us than ever before. I can read (or sometimes even watch) people's experiences around the world. Thru all of this - I am learning. How might observational learning be positive? How might it be negative?
Discussion 4 (Fear/Phobia) – 100 – 150 Words
I personally have a very deep seeded fear of spiders!! My husband knows his job is "spider-killer" But - is this fear a phobia? We tend to use the words interchangeably - but they are different. What is the difference between a fear and a phobia?
Discussion 5 (Fear/Phobia) – 100 – 150 Words
I think it's important to point out a very common OCD misconception. Not everyone who has OCD is very neat and clean. Actually, a lot of the people with OCD I've worked with are the opposite. How is this possible? Why do we believe this myth?
