Comtemporary issue
You are required to do three things as an individual student:
1. For each of the 3 topics you choose make at least one posting (maximum 500 words) on the relevant Discussion Forum (DF). There will be a separate DF for each Topic – NOTE: each Topic DF will become UNAVAILABLE on the due date/time specified above. If you have NOT posted by that date/time you will need to choose another topic. Your post will identify a recent article of relevance to your chosen topic that will have been covered in ACC00106 by that time and will also include a personal reflection. These postings should be set out clearly with the following included:
· Citation. Each posting should have an abbreviated 'Header' identifying the authors and source title and date/issue (for example, 'Smith and Jones, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Volume 25, Issue 1'; or 'Stevens, Australian Financial Review, 2 May 2014, P. 4'. This would be the SUBJECT line of your post on the Discussion Board).
· The reason for relevance of this article to this particular topic of ACC00106 (maximum 300 words).
· A personal reflection on what you found to be the aspect of the current topic that created the most reaction from you. This is a subjective and personal reflection that will differ from student to student (maximum 200 words).
· A link (URL) to the article or attach a PDF copy to your thread.
To be successful in this assessment task you need to do the following:
· Submit your post to the correct forum (a separate forum is established for topic; postings made to the wrong forum will not be marked).
· identify three (3) articles of some quality (not single paragraph ‘update’ articles) published after 1 January 2014 and with relevance to ACC00106 and make your postings to the DFs that best cater to your individual time constraints (posts CANNOT be made after the due date/time because the forum will be automatically closed – it will NOT be visible to you until it is graded); that is, do not leave your postings of articles until the last minute and do not post more than one article in a single Topic.
· provide a brief reason for its impact on you, maximum 300 words (for example, you may not have thought about the issue before; you may have observed behaviour related to the matter before and that was important to you; it may have provided you with means of understanding other phenomena; you may have related the issue to a current development in the world – current affairs, your employment or business, etc. However, do not summarise the topic or the article! )
· regularly read the ACC00106 Study Guide, readings and attempt the activities and try to relate that reading to your life for your personal reflection (maximum 200 words)
Marking criteria Assignment 1
In assessing Assignment 1, the marker will take into account your performance in the following areas:
· logical coherence of discussion (unintelligible discussion will receive no marks)
· extent of insight provided (in the personal reflection and comments this will be personal insight; in comment regarding the article this will be insight into the article and the relevant topic … NOT summaries!)
· structure/organisation of content
· conciseness and clarity (500 words is not very much to foster this)
· level of understanding of course concepts
· extent of evidence presented in support of your opinion.
